ok i have a question cuz i got a free car from my dads friends... he put water in his ridiator instead of antifrezze and he used it for the day and den the next day the ridiator was frozen and all the lines for it to... so i took it off the raidiator and the 2 hoses and clean dem out .. but all the water that got inside of da motor frozze inside and my question is how do i defrezze all the ice inside with out taking da motor apart

 

ouch. im not sure maybe boil some coolant and put it threw the hose. or you can put the car in the garage use heater so warm everything up i guess. but im not sure about it though. something i would do if i needed to drive the car soon. but if you dont wait till spring or summer.

 

Yep replace with coolant and check if you have leaks afterwards, Ice often expands leaving destuction in its path.. Look for where the leak is and excess the damage from there. From what I have been told this is why you WINTERIZE your vehicle...

Three goals here as I see it:
1. Get the ice out.
2. Don't damage the engine chemically.
3. Don't give the block a sudden thermal shock that will encourage fractures and cracking.

The easiest method for thawing the engine is to put it in a heated garage without starting the car. If you can't get that done, I recommend a space heater or something along those lines. Do not go dumping melting agents into the block without getting a good grip on what they will do to the components internal to the engine (anti-freeze is chemically designed to be inert, salt on the other hand is not.) Additionally, I wouldn't recommend giving the engine localized heat, either from a small burner (like a hair dryer) or introduction of a fluid that will only reach part of the engine and thus potentially cause significant dissimilar thermal expansion and fractures.

When the water thaws out, you obviously want to check the head, gaskets, radiator, etc... for cracks. Your engine might be toast, or you might have gotten lucky.

Put some towels in a big pot and boil them. Then place them around the hoses.If you want throw one on the valve cover. Repeat until they are thawded out.Once everything is thawded out drain the motor oil new filter and replace the water with coolant. Then let te car idle for a while do not rev it.

your probably alright. engines have freeze plugs for a reason

 

i would let your car sit in a warm garage or something ,so the internals can get fully defrosted ...then flush your coolant system and fill it with the proper mixture.

 

It's very possible that that motor could be done for. Like others have said, when water freezes it expands. This is incredibly bad for the water jackets around the cylinder walls, which would push them in and send them out of round. Also, this can cause the block to crack. There's many components in the engine that can be damaged by this. If you start putting hot things into the engine bay it's even more likely you could stress the parts and crack them from the shock of going frozen to hot.
