Found My CaR's Top Speed...
DISCLAIMER - The meaning of this was to find my car's theoretical top speed, provided by gearing/redline/tire size. I understand about wind resistance, so please do not read too deep into this.
... Not on the street, don't worry.
It's Sunday night, I was at work since 2:00pm doing paper work, so around 7:30pm, I thought I'd give this a try. I've always been curious, this is what I found:
Top Speed: 163mph/OEM USDM 4.400FD/OEM USDM gears/9,200rpm redline
(The redline is somewhat estimated... AEM EMS shows 9,200rpm, my tachnometer shows 9,500rpm, and the dyno shows 9,100rpm... My guess is, the dyno is correct)
Video

Nothing big, just figured I'd share.

Really? What's wind resistance?
This was a test of theoretic top speed. Meaning, what gearing/redline/tire size will allow, not what the vehicle will allow in real world conditions. Don't read too much into it.

There are many apocryphal stories running around of people hitting the limiter in fifth gear, on completely stock DC2 ITR.
Not sure whether or not we're supposed to believe it, but there are certainly a hell of a lot of these stories floating around for it not to be true.

i hit limiter in 5th gear w/ nitto 555r 205-45-15 on the front, only mod was h&r springs & apex N1 exhaust.
if u dont believe, then dont believe, but i did 2 times.

I have a 98 JDM type R in my 94 dc2. It only topped out at 135 mph.....The speed governer kicked in and i couldn't go any faster.
The non-JDM cars, in theory, should be able to hit the limiter in top gear, stock. This doesn't mean necessarily that you'll be able to push enough air to hit our friend's dyno-speed, but you might still hit the limiter.
interesting... I always thought top speed was less than 150, but the caR's gearing will allow for a top speed of 163. I wonder if the extreme mods will allow you to hit that 163 mark on the salt flats.
Yes, you can modify your ITR enough that you can push it quite a bit faster, but it's impractical. It just needs more HP than is economical to produce, and you really aren't going to need more than about 145 at most of the tracks that most people go to for their Honda Challenge races and driving events. At many popular tracks, you aren't really going to need more than 130 or so!
It's more about flexibility and how fast you can pull yourself out of a corner.
Not that I know much about this kind of stuff.
The most ridiculous car I've ever owned, aerodynamically speaking, was a 1969 300SEL 6.3.
The car would run up to 100 very quickly, and reach 140 in fair time.
But it was absolutely hopeless trying to go faster. It already had 300 HP, and a no-torque converter gearbox. It would've taken way too much HP to push it past 140.
Not that anybody could afford to put fuel in that 8 mpg monster anyway.

It might not be proved beyond a shadow of a doubt, but enough people have talked about it that we have to consider it.
Those of you who've been here since the beginning might know that there's somebody in this thread who has redlined his stock ITR in fifth gear.
