Questions on some mods for 01 R
So I am in the process of getting my R re-done again over the winter for the upcomming season. Some things that I have planned for are jdm cf hood (spoon or mugen) and cf spoon lip (old cf lip broke) or maybe even mugen front and rear bumper and sides. I am still debating as to what to choose. But my question is regarding the rear hatch. The oem usdm one is heavy as hell due to the glass and motor while the jdm one is lighter since the glass is thinner and has no wiper blade and motor asembly. Currently the motor on my hatch doesnt work so i never had the chance to use it on rainy days etc and I have gone fine without it but there have been times when i wished it worked. Just wondering what you guys' opinion on this is? would you switch to jdm or keep it usdm? i dont plan on using a plug on the oem one to eliminate the wiper arm as my goal is not trying to go for a cleaner look but more functional (eliminate some weight). or should i scrap those and just go with a cf trunk? btw the car is CW
Honestly, I'd go with that FAL (Flex-A-Lite) lightweight rear glass piece. It's cheaper than OEM glass, 50% lighter, and much more durable. Not to mention, it installs like OEM glass, there's no riveting or anything like that. The only negative, is that it does not have the rear defroster runners in it. This is not necessarily a bad thing, you can send the FAL glass to (I cannot remember the company's name off the top of my head, give me until tomorrow morning when I can check my notes at work), and they can coat it in anti-fog solution (I have a sample piece of this from PRI, it's incredible).
The part number you need is 9094B. I can get it for you for $276.49 plus shipping.

I'm going this route when I repaint my caR "glass out" style... OEM quarter glass (i.e. FAL doesn't make an OEM replacement piece for the DC Integra quarter glass, they never gauged enough interest), OEM windshield, and FAL rear glass.
Anyway, that's my recommendation as far as the glass is concerned.

Wouldn't taking out the wiper motor and plugging the hole be alot more practical (eliminating some weight) than replacing the entire hatch? Go on a diet if you really care about weight!
From a cost perspective, I agree with redGSRguy.
It depends on how much you're willing to spend. In my case, my glass is hard water stained from the previous owner (Not horribly, not noticeably to the average person, but to me, it sticks out like a straight guy in competitive figure skating), so I'm definitely replacing my glass when I repaint.

the fal idea sounds good. but i have seen fal windows that dont fit good and i dont want to end up buying something that isnt a 100 percent fit. any info on this? also can i use the oem moulding on it or does it come with a supplied one? my next concern would be safety certification after the install of this glass because where i live rear defrosters are considered a safety item.
yes and no. while removing the wiper and motor and pluggin it would be more practical it isnt more functional since the glass now has a hole in it and the glass still weighs more. i was thinking about just buying a jdm rear hatch with glass and spoiler for 250 cdn. and then removing the glass alone and installing it on my hatch and then remove the motor etc and inner panels from my usdm one and replacing it aswell with the jdm covers that way i can maintain my oem VIN numbers (since my car is oem vin'd everywhere). and then sell the spoiler and hatch for 200 bucks without glass. or i can install the glass on the cf rear hatch and keep the oem usdm hatch stock and then just swap it out if i want to change looks.

He has no fitament problems whatsoever. I agree with redGSRguy though. That would be the best solution IMO.

you can remove the hard water stains with a claybar. it will make it look brand new. You can even get crazy and machine polish it with menzerna, it will look brand new.
Are there any straight guys in pro figure skating?
