Default What counts a "Warmed Up"?

Basicly what counts as having your car "Warmed up"?
Oil temp? colant temp? a combnation of some things?
I have always heard 3-4 min, but would that apply when the car was running and has just been parked for half and hour? what if its 15 deg outside, is 3min enough?

Basicly I am trying to build a little light that comes on when the car is good to
drive, wont be to hard just some simple logic chips and an LED.

The car should be good to drive after you start it

The ECU considers 'warmed up' based on coolant temperature, so it's probably best to get an AutoMeter gauge and see.

best way to warm up your car is to just drive... but very slow and easy until the car's coolant temp reaches normal operating temp.

if its cold out, 1 minuet of idle
if its like 75+ just stay below 3000 rpm's till the needle gets above 1/5th and your fine.

When coolant temps reaches a certain degree, maybe 180. I'm sure you can rig something up to the ECT sensor.

I think you misunderstand his question

He wants to know when the engine is considered warmed up enough where he can push the engine. You should keep the revs down until the engine has warmed up, then once it has you can drive it as you like. He wants to know what considers warmed up enough to drive it as you like.

Exactly
Check my sig, I'm boosting my motor and once i pull out of my driveway I'm ready to start GOING

Think of it as kind of like a reverse turbo timer, but instead of waiting for the turbo to cool down so its safe I'm waiting for the motor to warm up so i can use some b00st.

i wait until i get 1/4 scale deflection out of my temp guage before revving over 3,000 RPM. this would correlate to about 145 degrees. when fully warmed up it is 1/2 scale and 210 degrees.

start it, smoke a cigarette, and when you are done, the engine will be at operating temp by then, thats my theory, but I never put any load whatsoever on the motor until the thermostat has opened.

If you want to "stomp er down" with boost right out of your driveway, I would reccomend you let it warm up until the cooling fans cycle. If you had a race car you would warm it up all the way before racing. Wouldn't you?

I think I understood his question quite well "When it reaches 180 degrees" and if he wants to wire up a light try it with the ECT sensor.

Main thing is letting the oil pressure build-up first, before you drive off...
