paint pricing seeming real high
i know quality paint jobs arent supposed to be cheap but i used to have a dc2 and the clear coat was shot on a few spots (roof, spoiler, bumper, the usual) i had one dent, and one scratch other wise. i talked to my girlfriends bro who paints cars for a living and he said itd be pointless to spot paint the few spots because it wouldnt bled so itd need a full paint job. he quoted me 2100 to re shoot it black... does that see high to you? because it does to me.
i wanna know people who re'd up on current colors, had full color changes, and had parts (skirts lip wings hoods) done. and what you guys paid.
i need some sh*t painted

ill post pictures of his wrk sometime soon, but he only charged him round 800 i think bc theyre good friends, n after he was finished he did another guys civic for 800 too...
i would say dont get it painted by family, jus bc he paints cars...shope around n find ta best price, not tha most convenient... but thas jus my $0.02
oh i know, i ended up selling the dc2 to him and i got my ep3. im now looking to fix up all my cracks on my front bumper, and i wanted to get the type r skirts, possibly both lips also, but i need it painted. i was also looking into making my ep stand out with a completely different color, not offered. id say milano red, but thats the timeless color everyone swaps their eps to

As that being said when I had my EG before it got stolen I had it painted Berlina Black of the S2000 and it costed me about 3500$... but I had it primered in black and then they applied 4 layers of paint and after each layer they would wet sand and paint again... Just remember how much time is put on prep will cost more but the result will speak for themselves...
and this was my result...
what color was it before hand? my car has ALOT of swirl marks on it, how can i work the paint to look near new? i just want the current paint to look good, and then match up the type r skirts and lip i want
might want to check out appearance and cosmetics section. there are a lot of paint compounds that will help remove those swirls. just wash your car with microfiber towels after you've gotten rid of them.

for the 800 dollars he was paid for the truck...
he fixed several rust spots, primed it in grey, put on a total of 5 coats of black paint and wetsanded between each coat...
he would have only done 4 coats, but during one session there was water in tha air line and it left spots...
but like i said ill post pics soon bc the job he did was flawless.

Black an any other color is easy to just spray on the car but the work that goes into making it look good is very hard and demanding!

Alright, I'm the owner of the truck that got painted by my friends and heres the run down on what we did over my christmas break.
Fixed all rust over all 4 fenders with new 16 gauge steel welded in, fixed the rockers and put in new cab corners
Completely sanded the bitch down yada yada
Primed with DuPont primer - 3 coats.
wetsanded hardcore... lots of prep here.. as stated before, black takes ALOT of work to come out looking good so we had a good chunk of time here.
3 coats of Granada Black Pearl Du-Pont Nasin (sp?) its a level lower than the DuPont stuff most body shops use, its great paint, covered well.. if you're going for a full respray I say save money and get it, as the more epxensive stuff is really only worth it if you're going to be blending.
Then followed by 3 coats of clear...
Complete Wetsand/buff
**** looks BLINGING. Little to no orange peel after the wetsand and buff.. it sucks that the truck is always dirty because it's winter, but the pearl in the paint really pops in the sun!
Oh, cost of ALL supplies paint etc sandpaper, plastic, and blah blah blah blah was right around $500. We paid my buddy $300 for the work he did, he more or less wanted to gain some experience with base clear and I also did alot of work on the truck too so it all came out well.
Basically, if you've got a friend that can paint it, then seeing if you can save money by doing the prep work is always a good idea, as the wetsanding isn't really hard, its just boring after awhile.
I'll post up some pics sometime, but it looks nice for what we have invested in it..
If the scratch is deep enough to catch your fingernail, it will need to be sanded down with 80 grit and filled in...then surfaced and sealed before being painted..and blended...I'm not sure what you mean by BB hole...
All oil based paints are going to be increased in price as oil prices go up...Try to find a shop that is using water based paints, as it is more environmentally friendly and a bit cheaper.
For you to say black is as easy to spray as any other color only tells me you've never sparyed before. Black, silver and white are going to be a little more difficult, mainly because they call for undercoats that will be very close to the color you are spraying, which makes it harder to lay a 70% overlap because it is more difficult to keep track of your spots. Black is terribly difficult color to lay down nice and to keep nice.I've owned one black car and sprayed I don't know how many, and I will never own another one again.
And to answer the OP, $2100 for a full re-shoot and to fix the dents and the hole is not a bad deal...Shop and ask around to see who can offer the best work for the lowest price...Have them wite up an estimate and then ask to see the R/O for th car...It will show you everything they are charging you for as well as the hours needed to do everything and their hourly rates.
