Default 94-97 headlight housing with 98-01 lense?

Got into an accident the other night and my 5 day old 98+ conversion headlights now have the tabs broken off them. I still have my old 94-97 headlights that are in decent shape but my question is can I take the lenses off the 98+ headlights and put them on the 94-97's? I dont think I have ever seen this done but they look "close". anyone got any input before I fire up the oven?

94-97 lights have about 4 plastic retaining tabs and 4 metal clips around the edges to help hold the lens and housing together. 98-01 lights have no metal clips, and I think 8 of the plastic retaining tabs.

If you tried to put the 98 lens on the 94-97 housing, I think there would be no place for the clips, and only 4 (or possibly none) of the tabs would engage. You could try it, but it may not work perfectly.
