Default 1997 Auto tranny question

I did a search for my question and could not find a definite answer.

I have a 97 civc dx 1.6(non vtec). The tranny is on its way out. Looking at junk yards I can get a tranny for a vtec for half the price.

Will a tranny for a vtec work on a non vtec engine?
I know it will bolt up, but is anything else needed so that it will not throw codes?

Thanks

From my search I see that they may have different gear ratios between the two ( can anyone confirm? ). It sounds as if it will bolt up and drive, I am also looking for some reliability. I don't want it to shift way late or way early and throw codes. I don't know how much electronics are in these trannys.

I know some cars you put the wrong ratio in and you have serious drive ability issues. I just don't want too may issues, speedo off is no big deal .

Thanks
