Poor Jason Franza (and other favorite moments)
Oh man, do I feel for this guy. The only time Jason and I talked at length before last weekend was at Viper Days a few weeks ago. I had NO idea what the poor guy was getting into.
Jason was paddocked between me and the tech shed, so I saw him a lot in passing this past weekend. Every time I saw him he was sporting an ear-busting grin. At one point I asked him if this racing thing had lived up to his expectations. "Man, I have never had this much fun" [or words to that effect]. Getting ready for the start on Saturday, he was beside me. I looked over and got the immediate
. Poor bastard is talking about tow vehicles already. Jason, forward my apologies to your fiancee. And by the way...NICE DRIVING. As Darth would say, "Impressive. Most impressive."
Jason is just one example. Other favorites...
- Finding out that Robert drove over some of the white rubber sticks to get out of people's way after a spin. "Show kaa" my ***!
- Getting off the track on Satuday, hands shaking, after spending most of the race playing with Lyonel Kent, who is ALWAYS enthusiastic and one hell of a driver.
- The line of spectators along the T1-2 fence in my peripheral vision both days
- The CLEAN driving that we've been blessed with. That we're able to race so close and stay clean tells me that the concept is working.
- Recognizing some of the corner workers as I drove by corner stations. The MM guys kick major ***
- The biggest moment was, ironically, Sunday in the grid. I was near the very back. Which sucked for me race-wise, but gave me an interesting view. I could see a full grid of Hondas in front, beside, and behind me. And I said, aloud, "We're pulling this off."
Thank you ALL. The supporters, the sponsors, the spectators, the event staff (we owe a LOT to NASA-VA), and the racers. Without all of you, there wouldn't be ten threads on this board describing how much *** this (and other) events kicked. Everyone involved, or even interested from the sidelines, should take a bow.

Jason, you and your future Mrs. don't need be concerned about what you're gonna to spend on racing. I currently spend the same amount on my motorsports addiction that I did 15 years ago when I got started....

Monopoly's Guide to ECHC. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200. Spend all money in bank account on racing and Ramen noodles. Realize that crack would've been cheaper, but not nearly as much fun.

to everyone involved. It was worth the dinner at Copeland's I had to spring for Sunday night to appease my girlfriend.
Pat on his cell Saturday morning: "Sweetie, I'll buy you something pretty if you let me stay for the race"
Thanks, guys. It was a great show. See you all at LMS!

Jason actually passed Alex Ratcliffe (sp?) in one of the final laps on sunday. Of course, Alex got him right back but it was hella cool to see them going after each other. Big

I love seeing people tow their race cars with smaller cars.

Heck, the TR4A and the Chevy LUV were much lighter than the DX Coupe.
