I purchased a 2001 Civic DX. Hope do give it to my brother as a DD. Got it for 3500 with 69k on it. Had a few questions. When i turn the car on and when it is in either Park or Neutral there's like a ringing noise coming out of the engine bay somewhere on the middle to left side if looking from the front. When i'm driving it doesn't make that. Noise, just wondering what it could be and what i can do to fix it. It is automatic transmission if that helps any.

 

it could be the trans make the whining noise,the alt, p/s pump etc.

i would rec. removing the drive belts one at a time and runing the car each time you remove a belt and see if the noise is still there. this will narrow down where the noise could be.
