Looking for quality high performance rings for my Type R engine rebuild
My shop is rebuilding my 1997 JDM Type R engine, they supposedly bored out the block .25 over stock to eliminate the taper that had formed in the cylinder bore. But now, they don't like the way the .25 over rings fit the .25 over pistons, they say the end gap is right around 24 thousandths and although the rings are spec'd for these pistons, they want a smaller gap, even if that means getting slightly oversized rings and cutting them down. Could I use a .30 over piston ring? Honda doesn't make a ring in a size over .25 in the Type R bore. What do you guys recommend?
JE? Eagle? Mahle? What would break in best and give my engine the best performance?
I searched in vain for Eagle's web site, didn't find JE's, but I already knew Mahle's at Mahlemotorsport.com

Call up RS Machines... You can get a set of rings for about $40 bucks if i'm not mistaken. Let them know your application, they'll take care of you. This what i have in my car right now... going on 2 years now.
yep, i'd second RS Machines. Had I not gone with OEM ones, I would have gone with ones from RS machines. On second thought, I'd start to wonder if your block was over-overbored to begin with...
