Loud ringing noise
Hope someone can help...just picked up an 02 Civic DX in November and
noticed an annoying, intermittent loud ringing noise when driving at speeds above 80 kms. It's not a whistle, it's definitely a ringing noise. The ringing is loud and totally random. Will occur for a few seconds, up to about 5-6 seconds at a time, then ceases. It's hard to tell where the ringing is coming from as it's quite loud and throughout the whole car. In a 1/2 hour drive the noise might occur not at all, or multiple times. It's driving us crazy! Not knowing what it could be or how to find out is also driving us crazy....
Does anyone have any ideas? We're desperate

No, the noise is so freaking loud it fills the whole car - it's really hard to tell where it's coming from. I should have been more clear, it's like a tuning-fork ringing noise.
I wish it was a cell phone! Crap, I was so happy to get this car, and now
I have this problem that seems like nothing but is driving us crazy.
Trying to track down when it started - I think it started after we drove
the car with ice in the rims - not intentionally....happened 3 wks ago after
huge snowstorm. Car was shaking like crazy while driving...we called the
dealer and he said he gets 50 calls after every snowstorm, told us to
power-wash the rims...which we did...but now this tuning-fork noise.
Could it be related??

You make a good point - maybe we should try applying the brakes
briefly and see how it affects the noise. I'll try that - I'll try anything....
(related to fixing this problem, of course...LOL

Thanks, I thought it may have something to do with that.
My first thought was windshield molding because these cars are
known for that kind of problem noise, but it's not a whistling or howling
noise, it's definitely a loud ringing like a tuning fork, and it's very brief,
and comes and goes.
What did your friend with the weird intake do, to fix the problem?
