Default f22 powered go kart!!! input wanted

Here is my idea-

I have an f22a1 making no use of itself in my garage on top of that a friend of mine who drives a 92 accord is moving away and is asking a couple hundred bucks for it. So cut to the chase:

If I can get the equipment, materials and experience to bend a SS frame designed around a proven shifter cart or similar vehicle..... How would you go about it?

I was thinking tear out the front end with all the mounts from the accord and depending on how much of the car frame was kept fabricate the back end of the frame around the stock mounts instead of trying to custom fab EVERYTHING. Btw it is going to be rear mounted RWD think backyard version of the Arial atom

I’m taking several classes related to drafting and design including a solid works course at my local CC so I could do the frame as my final project which would include overall mass, tolerances of given materials and all measurements required to put it together.

Any one done this before? Anyone want to get in on this project?? Give me your input, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Jesse

just do a sport bike engine or a 2 stroke shifter cart engine... that will be plenty fast enough... instead of a 400lb worth of engine and tranny out of a accord that won't be fast.

If you change your mind, i have 2 shifter cart frames, ones a rolling chassis and i have a 2006 Ninja 636 engine with 2000 miles on it, fuel injected thats complete with harness, i'll sell you all that if you want it... i never got around to building it.

an f22 motor and trans would weigh too much and would throw the weight distribution off. and you will have traction issues. too much little stuff to try and install in a small space. get a motorcycle engine or something small like that to put in there.

If you were to build some sort of kart / buggy around an f22 engine etc, then about the only parts from a kart chassis that might be useful would be the steering wheel and perhaps the seat...

You are better off building a buggy or something out of an f22... Actually I have heard of a setup that uses a single cam honda engine with a lsd trans turned side ways and having each cv shaft drive a solid axle like a dana 60 or something.

Company called Rhino-Offroad used to build them with B20 engines and automatic trannies. Pretty sure they used a spool, not a LSD diff

A guy on this site has built a RWD sand buggy with a D16, I think he used all of the civic front suspension stuff on the back of his buggy - You can get some ideas from his build

Does you have the facilities for you to build whatever you design, or is this more of a classroom exercise?

Let me rephrase. I didn't mean strip down a kart frame and build on it. I meant use those design features like placement of bars and supports as a guide for my own frame design.

Thank you that's EXACTLY what I'm looking for as for the facilities, no I don't have a full shop with welders and tube benders at my disposal. But I have plenty of people in my classes and elsewhere who do, but I need a rock solid design and parts list before I can pitch anything to anybody.

Do you have a link to that d16 buggy thread? I'll look around for it regardless.

Thanks again!

Not really (you could but it would be rubbish..). With karts the chassis is designed to be very flexible and acts as the suspension. If your suspension comprises springs and articulated linkages etc then you want the chassis to which everything is attached to be as rigid as reasonably possible.

Keep in mind that kart chassis are designed the way they are largely because the rear axle has no differential, and the track is so wide relative to the wheelbase.

your picture says noob why?

but since it's exactly the kind of design i'm leaning towards i am just going to go off of the ariel atom. trouble is its pretty hard to find specs for it..... maybe alldatadiy.com would have them? doubt it.

I was just thinking about doing a winter project building a go kart with two 125cc dirtbike engines or using a motor cycle engine... I think an f22 will be a little much for a first time build you should just keep it simple till you get firmilar with what you have to do
