Default ECU Replacement help

Well I took my car into the shop to have them diagnose the problem, they said my ECU is bad. They were gonna charge me $700 for a new one and installation (part being $600). I found a used one at a salvage yard for $90, and I was wondering if it's worth $100 to have the shop install it or if this is something I could do myself easily? Keep in mind I have really no tools to speak of, but I could acquire any basic tools needed from friends and family.

Anybody have any how to guides to link to or other helpful resources?

Its really not hard at all..But if you really dont have a clue as to what you are doing..than i would say just bring it to the shop and have them do it.

well first off what year is your car? if its a 01 and civic you will need to bring it to a dealership to have the immoblizer reprogramed. you would have to drive it there and let them swap it out cause once you change ECU it will not start because immoblizer is not programmed. this is only if is 01 and civic
