If you had $1000 what would you do?
So i got a grand to play with..ive got intake and cat-back exhaust. 10000k hid front lip, gril, i really really want bronze rota slipstreams.. maybe spend it on those? my car is a 96 accord lx. its a deep dark red kinda maroon-ish. it snows here so i cant drop it maybe 1"?
Put it towards opening a Roth IRA, especially if you are in your twenties like me. When you are 65, you will thank me later, after you purchase your Bentley and retire in Florida.
How's the maintenance on the car? I would put it towards that first.
The Rota Slipstreams are nice, but if you get those, keep your stock wheels for our crappy Chicago Winters, salt and potholes.

hondapower80s idea is probably the best decision you could make with the money. but if you want to put it in to the car then i would go though the entire car and make sure it doesnt need anything. i would give it a full tune up (cap, rotor, plugs, wires), flush all the fluids, adjust the valves, get an alignment, balance the tires, seafoam the crankcase and intake manifold, replace the fuel filter, replace the timing/balance shaft belts and water pump. is there anything that doesnt work 100% that pisses you off sometimes? like a broken door handle, or a power window that moves really slow. then i would make sure to get all the dents and dings fixed. that should suck it up pretty quick.
^ that sounds pretty boring...$1000 extra shouldnt be put in to regular maintenance that you do anyways. with that logic you could argue that you should use the money for gas because its an ongoing maintenance cost. i say buy some rare ****in wheels and enjoy your ****...thats what im doing.
take $500 and do this:
-get your TB bored out my maxbore.com
-buy some nice lowering springs(you can get a set of dropzones off of gripmotorsports.com for like $145shipped)
-get your aligment
the other $500? put it way just in case something on your car breaks. it feels so good when something like a tire blows out, your motor throws a rod, or some other issue with your car happens and you have the money in the bank to get it fixed with little to no down time.

Well on that budget I would sincerely suggest you stop, take a deep breath, sit down and research, research and research some more.
You've no room to redo any of your choices (a quite common occurancy with the whole 'motorhead' thing).
Figure out what statement you want to make, how you expect to use the ride and most importantly; figure out if you're doing this for "yourself" or are you trying to impress others?

I am in agreement that if you have $1000 to put into your car. Regular maintenance is the place to start. You will be able to enjoy your car more if it runs properly. You may not look bling bling. but you won't be sitting on the side of the road wondering why your $1000 wheels aren't working right.
Save that 1000$. Don't make the same mistake as my brother, spending thousands on his car, and missing all the car's daily tune-up, now this 99' accord is mine (gave it to me for free), i have to do so many things to it, Change the timing belt (80k miles and its the same belt from 0miles) Change the tranmission oil (even though i changed it awhile back, it seems like its clogging up my transmission) change the spark plugs (this is cheap but also help improve my car's performance). Change the brake pads and rotors.
My list goes on.. and if i have a 1000 right now, it's all going to be on maintenance. If so, my car will last longer, and i'll have more time to spend on my motor or exterior/interior later on.

With this frame of thought I hope you get to enjoy those rare ****in wheels. Before your brakes fail, engine blows or your ignition goes on you. You'll look pretty ****in rare with your bling wheels sitting on a flatbed and you in the passenger seat of a tow truck.

But this isn't your thread is it?
The guy never made mention of having an extra $1k. He said "If you had $1000 what would you do?"
To the OP.........
Lets talk about snow and some major rim hazards that are associated with it. If your driving your car in the winter time, such as right now. Dropping $1k on a set of wheels would be pointless. Unless you enjoy road salt corrosion and sand scratches with your new $1k rims. Besides no one will even notice them this time of year. That's why smart people that drop $1k+ on wheels usually have 2 sets. Summer wheels and winter rims, aka steelies.

Sounds to me as if you should us that grand and buy a cheap winter beater to drive. But then again if you have to come in here and ask how to spend your money, you probably need an accountant...
Think to yourself how much you really like the car. Are you going to be driving it in a year? 5 years? If you're going to keep it for a while, save your money and go FI after you've taken care of regular maintenance. I've personally thrown the idea of rims out the window. I like my hubcaps, but it would be nice if they were wider. Anyways i'm just going to buy nice tires.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON A LARGER THROTTLE BODY. Big waste of money for you right now.

I would get a new stock exhaust. From the manifold back. It's annoying the h$ll out of me to have to listen to a chattery exhaust everytime I drive it.
From your perspective, I would just save that grand for anything that might happen in the future. I have close to $2,300 saved just for mechanical problems I may experience. Just keep saving until you have to either use it, or can afford to buy another car.

Plus once you have a few hundred in the bank you will be pleasantly surprised at how much faster your money builds up because you are conscious about what you spend it on.
This way you'll be well on your way to another $1000 then $1500 and so on. You will definitely be able to do your car up the way you want to instead of having to make difficult decisions on which part to buy and you can buy them all!

Hope this helps to inspire you.
Personally, if I had 1k lying around, I would finally purchase that GC/Koni yellow setup that I have been wanting so badly for so long. GCs are adjustable height so you can make the drop reasonable to deal with your chicago winters (seriously though, stay away from rims right now, I know I almost messed up a TL's wheels when I was up there a couple weeks ago). I want that because I autocross pretty frequently with my accord, but that setup might be too pricey for you because you don't want to race your accord...what are your goals?
Maybe you should spend it on fixing that cancer that you have on your rear quarter panels from dealing with midwestern winters and do some other cosmetic fixes while you're at it, since you seem to have already spend a lot of money to make the car look nice. Got some dings and scratches that need to be fixed? Body work adds up quick, but theres nothing quite like finally getting rid of those little issues that only you can see :-P.

If my budget was $1k right now (and my maintenance was up to date,) I'd put it towards paint and body work. But making sure your **** is dialed in is the most important thing I guess. Especially if that's your DD. You got to keep it up and running, so I guess spend what you have to on regular maintenance and save yourself some money in the long run. Putting off small repairs can just end up creating bigger problems, we all know that's true.

Buy something you can make money with. Even a good set of tools to fix your car, and anybody elses car for $$$$ a lawnmower to mow in the neighborhood, anything your good at, fund it and make some money. Or get your car in resaleable condition and keep it there at all times, so when your ready to make a change you can do it in an instant. I recently sold my 98 and had to dump over 500 into it between paint and misc repairs-not fun.
