ITA Incar Video - Mid-Ohio 8/3
Here are some clips from last weekends races...

Close Call... an SS Neon tries to crash in the chicane before Keyhole. To go fast through this set of corners you have to really commit and the car is sliding through the whole thing. When something like this happens, you can't just get on the brakes without being a passenger yourself.

Sunday's race start... close racing

Lapped traffic... with 54 cars on the track, lapped traffic was tough. This group was easy to get past and very predictable. Not all the cars were quite as courteous.

Like this guy... maybe he learned Mid-Ohio in the rain because that's the line he's driving.

And this guy... this is my "hey why don't you try looking at those mirror things attached to your doors because you just ran me off into the grass at 100mph" gesture.

Helped by traffic... I had been chasing the green Mazda throughout the race and slowly pulling him in. Here he gets screwed by traffic and I catch him. Going into the chicane I know the Civic is going to hold us up so I position myself to go outside... the next thing I see is the door of the Civic!

More traffic... the guy in the silver Miata deserves credit. He knew we were there and did everything possible to stay out of the way.
http://www.jasmund.com/incar/0803-08.mpg - 3.5MB
The final turn... I get a run on the Mazda going into Carousel, then lock the fronts and threw it away. Doh!

Scott,
Thanks so much for posting you videos - I'm not sure they are really helping my Jonesing though.
Scott, who so wants to drive Mid-Ohio.....

Haha... it wasn't so much rage as it was frustration. After nearly getting pushed off by a half-dozen cars just not watching their mirrors, this guy was unlucky enough to do it on a piece of track that I could take my hand off the wheel and tell him what I though.
At least I didn't give him the finger!
The heat probably played a big role in it too. I have a Suunto watch with a thermometer in it... the temp inside my suit was over 100 degrees after the race... I soaked through 4 layers of Nomex! I think people were getting fatigued and not paying attention as well as normal.

It kinda looks like the civic had a little help with that spin.
Damn that just looks like too much fun. So how often do you actaully get to drive on the fastest line? It seems like you have to sacrifice on every corner due to traffic or setting yourself up for a pass.

John... you're right, it almost took us all out. We had to brake more than normal on the entry so we had a little left in reserve for evasive action. On a normal lap, you make the right hander very high in the revs in 4th gear (~90+ mph)... a light tap on the brakes, then drift through the double left before braking hard for Keyhole.
Sometimes they let us run the "pro" course, which bypasses the chicane and goes straight to Keyhole. Even though it doesn't look it, The braking zone is on a steep uphill grade and you can brake really, really deep (on the limiter in 4th). Even though you know you can go to a certain marker, your brain is still telling you there is no way in hell you're going to stop!
Scott~ that's some terrific in-car footage.
Your car seems very well hooked up, too.
As much as I daydream about joining the ranks of road racing one day, your footage provides a sharp reminder that this isn't kid stuff, and wheel-to-wheel racing requires a ton of skill, nerves of steel, and strong and well-conditioned sphincter. That Civic spinning right in front of you would have done me in. Hard to imagine me ever getting to the place of being able to handle it like you did...

Sometimes it doesn't work out quite as well.
