Will TAKING off My Heat Shield affect my engine at all?...
Hey guys.....I want to take off my heatshield. If I take it off will anything happen to my engine at all...hp decrease....hp increase?....My main question is will it affect my engine at all.
Thanks
Underhood temps will go up. If you have a short-ram air intake, then your engine is going to injest warmer air, making horsepower go down.
You WILL NOT gain any horsepower from removing it.

I have a short ram and i took mine off. I drove like that for 6 months. Then two weeks ago i took off mine intake resinator and put my heat shield back on and i felt a defference. Very small. But leave it on.
First of all the temp will go up
and your stock headers are going to be rusted out anyway....it'll look damn ugly...don't do it.

Only reason I did it is because the stock heatshiled doesn't fit over my dc header.
You need the heat shield on also to insulate the header and move the exhaust gases through it quicker. Not to mention the temp sucks..

I just took it off to clean it...Filthy...and I liked being able to see the headers. I see all these imports in magazines and shows..and their shield is off with their DC or GReddy headers showin...thanks though guys

You guys are funny. The temp does not go up anymore with it off.
Do what i did and thermo wrap them. All all that bull **** about them cracking and waht not is a joke. I have had them wrapped for 3 years now and have hot seen any wear of that nature.
Also get water wetter, it helps!!

As people already pointed out thermal wrap is a very good idea. However only stock or non-ceramic headers/downpipes. Ceramic keeps heat in very well. Have you ever touched one when hot -- I have, "****!".
are you kidding me, no why would it have any affect on your engine, i can see where they are coming from with the intake sucking in hotter air, but think about it, when your car is moving air is constantly moving in the engine bay. Its not like removing the peice of metal(METAL, a conductor for heat) will effect much if any air temperatures. Its more of a precaution so dumbasses dont touch their manifolds.
I put it back on for going to the Honda Dealership to get my check-up....I like being able to see my headers, regardless if their rusty or not. Don't know what I'll decide....more important things to think about
I have a DC header and when the car is cool or normal driving in cooler weather everything is fine.I noticed after driving for a while, on hotter days, or hard driving the car felt very sluggish (especially lower end). I knew it was due to higher underhood temps because of no heat shield (by the way there is an air gap between the heat shield and factory manifold to increase insulation). I wrapped the header and downpipe in DEI thermal wrap and it made a nice difference-especially when hot. That thermal wrap keeps the heat in so well, the first day I noticed my catalytic converter glowing red hot(I actually touched the header for a sec to see how hot it was and didn't get burned-dumb I know). More heat and velocity in exhaust=more power. Also kept underhood temps way down. CAI of course helps too.
I think for every 11 degrees you lower the intake temp you get a 1% increase in HP. 55 degrees cooler on a 200 HP engine equals 10 HP.It's one reason why nitrous makes so much power-it super cools the intake temp..

This **** is all user biased. Some people like it, some dont. The only reason i wrap my downpipe is to deter the heat from the downpipe away from my oil pan.
