On saturday afternoon, I took my GSR to manhattan to pick up a date. Once I arrived at her apartment I parked and turned off the ignition.
When she comes out I try to start the car but it wouldnt crank over.

I check all the fusues and they were fine. I reset my keyless entry alarm and it still doesnt work. I then suspect that the starter is messed up.

I begin to get a bit worried and called a fellow R-Speed member to help me out. My dates dad works as a mecanic across the street, so he comes over, says I'll have it started in a sec, and he proceeds to take some wire off my starter, clean/play with the wire a bit and voila, my car starts!

I wonder what could it have been? Do starters go bad like that?


Later on 1 minute after the car is started, DavidNYC arrives with his factory manual, ( He came down from the Bronx) and by that time my problem was solved. Many Thanks anyway Dave

30 secs after the PY ITR arrived a 00-01 NBP ITR turns the corner spots us and starts revving his motor at us. I say david do you know that guy? but we dont know who the guy is. He turns the corner, pulls into a garage and continually revvs his motor like a madman....

Anyone with a NBP ITR living in manhattan in the upper east side (95th and 1st Ave area) from here?

haha sounds like a Volkswagon commercial. You have one broken down car, another car comes to the rescue, then a 3rd comes and revs at you while sitting in a garabe I can hear the DA DA DA as I speak this...

anyway interesting story and glad to see your whip is ok Too bad I didnt know about your mini meet bc I woulda stopped by and revved on the NBP ITR haha

ha ha! Thanks, my car is fine now. I asked her dad what he did and how the car was restarted. I'm guessing that some contact points on the starter was rusted or loose...he pulls out a wire, plugs it back in and the car started.

I also called for a flatbed and they wanted to charge me $100 to flatbed the car home. Luckily things worked out and my evening/date wasn't ruined....

 

Yep he dropped everything he was doing to come help out my car

Hey VtecMan does the NBP Itr have clear corner lights/ nice drop, did u notice? Its because the same thing happen to me, a NBP Itr revved his engine to get notice I guess,around 100th St & 5th ave. Its close to 95th & 1st ave, I got a good look at him he looks young enough to act that way in a Itr. Its probably the same guy.

Actually, my first suggestion to Charlie on the phone, but then I was like... Duh ! He is in Manhattan.

Yeh, that is the guy. The revving wasn't annoying. I think it was more of a "hi" rev not a "being a jerk" rev.

I got revved on tonight by a Ford Explorer !! Now that is a "being a jerk" rev !!

 

I didnt look for clear corners, but it kinda had a drop and it had a round exhaust, something like an N1 or Racing medallion look with a loud annoying note.

I'm running an ITR Kakimoto R on my GSR and like the way that exhaust sounds over N1 style exhausts....Kakimoto R nice and deep.....not too farty sounding.


Yeah he also looked kinda young. maybe he's hispanic, I know he's not black, not white, not asian either

 

Humm, when I saw the NBP ITR I thought that DavidNYC brought along a friend.
Yeah the exhaust was loud, and he turned around the corner really slow and revved it really loud.

I was on the corner of 95th and 1st picking up my date from her apartment...thats when my GSR broke down. Luckily for me I didnt have to flatbed it home.


I started her up today and it started up fine.

I need to find out exactly what her dad did to fix my car and find out the principle behind it. I asked him but he was very hush-hush about it. All I could do now is speculate

 

Well for me if it was a "hi" rev he shoulda stopped by and actually said "hi"
