D-series to B-series WTF!?
Me and my friend have been arguing back and forth. He thinks I can make my D16Y8 just as fast as a B18C1 (even C5) given the proper mods and tuning. I think that for the money and time, it's much easier to do a swap. Wouldn't the money be better spent on a swap? I know you can turbo an SOHC and get good times, but to do it right you'll be speding a lot of money. Any opinions...
YOu an do all those mods and tuning to ur D16y8 but after all taht money you'll have the same power as the B18C (or C5) but you cant go any faster cuz u'd already have done everything! if u do the swap and decide u want more power you sitll have all those mods u can do to it..basically..go swap

I also agree...but for the money and time. Swap is easier. I think you would get more satisfaction right away too. Especially going from a d16 to a b series. (Although still slightly intimidated by doing a swap myself)
It can be done, it's been done before. But what if you swap in a B18C1 or C5, and then add more performance parts? You're starting with an excellent platform in the beginning, giving you the added advantage of building on to that power. If you squeeze every bit of performance out of the D-series motor, I'm sure you can hang with stock DOHC VTEC cars, but who's stock any more? I'm not talking bad about the single cammers, I have respect for them, but why not start with a powerful platform, and work from there..........
you guys know that there's an 11 sec single cam na non-vtec crx, right? being single cam and fast is not impossible. you could honestly go any way you want to in your build up and hit your performance goals, it's just a matter of the cash you're willing to put up and the headaches you're willing to endure.
ya, his name is mario. However his car doesnt way jack ****. Just go with the B series for higher base horsepower. You can get more outta the motor in the long run.
what the hell do you mean there's no such thing as a fast single cammer??? you need to get the March 2001 issue of Hot Rod magazine. guy is running 11 seconds on his daily driver '89 hatchback with full interior. has a d16A6 with an eaton blower at 27 psi on a built up motor. car hits 487 hp at the wheels on a stock tranny and runs the quarter in 11.04 seconds at 134. do you still believe thee's no such thing as a fast single cammer, narrow minded idiot.

has your friend ever riden in a B18 Civic turbo? Of course not, if he had of had a chance to ride in one he wouldn't be wasting your time with ideas like modding a single cam.
hey wait... so are 4 cylinders better than 3? i'm all confused now.
oh!!! how about a 2 cylinder engine with 1/2 a camshaft and 87psi of boost???
ahhhh dayum. i'll be in the garage wrenchin!! laters.

can i have your Y8 when you swap? its hard to beat the price/performance ratio of a SOHC turbo.
i got 2 D16 blocks in the span of 15 min at a party for free. one is a backup for the turbo and ther other is getting fully sleaved and build for higher boost. i agree B-series is better to start from...but i am having so much fun ******* around with these little motors...learning allot w/o hitting the bank to hard.
blow one up...oh welll....
i say you should swap...then give me your old motor for free plus shipping

Well.... when your done building up your SOHC to handle 27 PSI and put down 487...then let everyone on this board know so we can all be amazed at your genius.
