Default STD motor VS DX motor ?

Why does the Std motor only make 70 Hp, when the DX motor has the same DPFI and 1.5L, but the DX makes 20 more horses ?? I'm fixing to buy a STD. car for $100.00, and I was thinking mini-me, since I'm turboing my current DX.... Thanx..

2 things make the big difference between the STD and DX motor

DX=16 valves
STD=8 vavles

DX=9.2 to 1
STD=9.1 to 1

Yep, what he said. However, only 1 thing IMO-- 8 vs 16 valves.

Yes, standard has 16 valves. I put a dx head on my old 90 std and it picked up a bit. The cam is the only thing I could tell that was different. ECU's, intake, exhaust, and block are the same. The tranny is also a weak point with only 4 gears and no overdrive. My 4-speed std with dx head ran a 10.9 1/8th stripped which is slow but much faster than it would go with 70hp.
