Default Oil selection

I have a 90 civic hatch with a JDM b16a1 coupled with a s1 tranny. I do a lot of highway driving and do not have time for the 5th gear swap. Would putting a higher viscosity oil such as 10-40 vs the recommened 10-30 be more effective in protecting my internals, or should i just keep running 10-30. I do not have over heating problems and my engine is running well. Im up for an oil change so i figured i would ask around before i purchase some oil. Thanks in advance

A thicker oil will not protect better per say. Unless you have high mileage. Higher quality oil such as mobil1 will allow the oil to keep its lubrication properties until a higher temperature.

I use valvoline, most dealers run valvoline.
when I use castrol syntec, I feel a good difference when compared to synpower.
but everyone has their preferences, every enviroment is different, driving style etc.

using a lighter oil, means your car would act like it would when it's warmed up, something like that. suppose to just increase overall function. I don't really quite grasp how it works.
But I use synpower 5w30 all year, 5w30 should be used if you live somewhere really cold.
