Itr and Mini
so i hear the MINI S is a pretty nice car.. i read taht the suspension is supposed to be real good. how does the R compare.. please dont bitch and yell at me. im just curious on how those 2 will perform. my bros GF has one and she tells me its fast and ****. but i highly doubt the MINI S is up to the R's level. and its goes from 0-62 in 7.4
thanx

I used to own a MINI S...a great little car....not even close to the R in performance. The radio was better....and it had a sunroof. It's like comparing apples and oranges...they are not even close.

thats what i like to hear
If you could not overtake it on the turn then you need more seat time. they are good but not that good, if its stock vs stock you should have no prob. Who knows the person might have been syco and just held it open
I like the idea of a car that's really small and handles great. However, I think the Mini blew it by weighing as much as it does. (Typically overweight, like most BMWs). It's 17 percent shorter than the ITR - that's two and a half feet shorter - so why does it weigh almost as much (95 percent of the weight of the R, only about 100 pounds lighter)?
So, it weighs 5 percent less than the R, but it has 17 percent less power (163 hp vs 195) - you can figure out which one has a MUCH better power-to-weight ratio. That mostly explains why the R is so much faster.
Now, if they could have kept the weight under 2200 pounds, which would be consistent with its 17 percent shorter length and 17 percent lower power, it would have been a nice package indeed. Too bad.

The Mini I had was a 2002 Mini Cooper S I bought from Flow BMW/MINI in WS NC. I was on the list for quite a while. I bought the car....drove it....decided it wasn't as much of a track car as the R...so I sold it. The car dosen't have any flaws in it. It just isn't up to the level of the R yet. Now if BMW makes an M version of the car I will for sure look at getting another one.
here is my "old Mini"

I had a decent test drive in a Mini S, posted my impressions here:

long story short, great car, love the styling & interior, handles like a go-kart, would give a stock prelude a run for its money, not an R. 10 on the Fun scale tho,

The COOPER S does NOT have an LSD.
I have an ITR, and old Mini, and have driven the new COOPER S....
The COOPER S is a bit lacking in the power dept. It's about the speed of an Si Civic in stock tune. It handles very very well. The steering has a great direct feel.
The COOPER S needs about 40 more hp and an LSD to be in R territory.
And the 40 HP part will be dealt with when the "John Cooper Works" upgrade is available for the S....which is suposed to be sometime in early 2003 (according to MINI2.com). That upgrade gives the car 210hp.....LSD's are available from Minimania.com starting a few weeks ago....
I've been toying with the idea of trading my R in for one...but am holding out to see how that MINI brand goes.
Cheese~ who knows the old Mini r0ck0rz

The New Mini will hang with the ITR in the corners....as for the looks?? The ITR is not even on the level. As for the looks/styling.....hands down, MINI all the way.

Tests and comments from EVO magazine
Mini Cooper S
0-30 = 3.0
0-60 = 7.7
0-80 = 12.9
0-100 = 21.3
ITR
0-30 = 2.3
0-60 = 6.2
0-80 = 10.1
0-100 = 17.05
The Cooper S was compared against the Clio 172 (a 172 bhp "hot hatch" in the same market segment) the Clio was said to have the most adjustable chassis though there wouldn’t be much between them on the road. For reference the Clio 172 was originally described as having the best front drive chassis this side of an ITR.
Take from that what you will.
I suspect that for most drivers there wouldn’t be much in it between an ITR and a MINI through the corners (though I'm sure the ITR driver would be having more fun without the drivers aids in the mini) but if they were driven by pro's I think you would find the ITR out in front by quite a margin.

New Mini is JUNK. Its not even British anymore
They brought it back to make money and thats it. I'd rather have my 79 Mini....
p.s. I do know that they were made in the "older" body style til a couple years ago.... So don't get me wrong....
