Default How to trade cars

ok so i got me a 94 integra, some mods, nothing crazy. I got an offer to trade for a clean 98 civic coupe. my question is, how are you supposed to just trade a car? is it that simple? do you just goto the DOL and tell them you traded? or are you supposed to just sell it for 0.00$ and they sell it to you for 0.00$. any advice would be helpful. thanks!

You must sign over your titles to each other at the DMV someone there will be a witness. They check your info to make sure it is registered to you. Proceed to process and pay fees. Wal-la cars have been traded

I've always just made up a amount, like 1k or something and put on it, but youll have to pay like 5% of whatever you write as the sell price

If it is "sold" as a "gift" you do not pay taxes. I know that from when I had my mom "give" me my car once. Was in her name for the lower insurance but then I moved so it went in my name. Did not have to pay taxes on it, just fees for transferring title.

That only works in some states. In North Carolina, it only works if that "sales receipt" is from a car dealership, not from a private individual. They changed the law a few years back.

In jersey yyou gotta be careful too cause if you lie to not pay the taxes on the sale amount they will charge you tax on the estimated private party sale
amount. Depends if you get a ***** behind the counter at the MVC.
