Post __ 37 MPG in my 2000 Civic Si __

I've had my car for over 2 years now, but never actually calculated my MPG. I've always known that it was very good on fuel, but I was extremely suprised when I actually did it today.

It's a 2000 Civic Si - 95k miles. Original B16a2, with full bolt ons (AEM SRI, JDM ITR header, Apexi WS2 catback) and a CTR intake cam. NGK wires, NGK iridiums.

I drove to Orlando today which is straight highway from Tampa, so I figured it would be the perfect opportunity. I drove about 10 or so miles city getting to and from the interstate, so mostly all highway.

Yes I did it the right way, and no I'm not making this up.

Filled it up before I left, then I was on my way. I drove a total of 194 miles roundtrip, then went back to the same gas station I filled up at earlier, and filled up again. It took 5.280 gallons.

194 / 5.280 = 36.75 MPG.

I am confident that I could get 40 mpg on the highway if I kept it at a steady 65mph. I varied from 60-70 occasionally going a bit higer (72 tops). Average RPM's on the b16 tranny was 3500-3800 RPM's... Also passed a few people here and there, so IMO, 40 is definitely do-able if I am dead steady on the throttle.

I just thought I'd post this up since I see people with single cams posting that they only get 25mpg in their cars.

Guys with EM1's, post up your MPG. I'm curious now..

just go here. you can create a free account, then go to fuel log book. you'll need at least 3 complete fill ups to see how much you can average. To start off on the right track. make sure that everything has been updated and or changed on your car.

You'll want to adjust for your area though. This is for So. Cal.
http://www.orangecountygasprices.com...spx?mss=139876

1. Change the oil..conventional or synthetic.
2. Check your tire pressure, and even make sure your alignment is in good order.
3. Check or replace the following: Spark plugs, wires, distributor, O2 sensor, air filter and timing should be adjusted.
4. Lighten up your car. Some go to the extreme of removing the spare and jack stand....it will remove at least 50#...but i won't get into that stuff.
5. When driving do your best to use the Cruise control and keep a steady 55-60 mph. I know it may seem slow...but hey..you'll have other Honda drivers checking out your ride.

Just do some basics and common sense changes.

I have a 90 LS automatic (hate it...but its my daily) I average about 32-33 mpg, not bad...but manuals get the best mileage.

You should be able to get up to 40-44 mpg

You must be driving that car like a baby if your getting 37+ mpg considering its only rated at 26/31.

You know it. 2800-3000 shifts, and very very light throttle.

That's pretty damn good mileage

The best I ever got with my EH2 (hatch) w/ B16A was 38 mpg (maybe 75%/25% highway/city).

BlackDueceCoupe gets 41 mpg with his B16A2 on 87 oct!

I really question those EPA ratings. In both the Hondas that I have owned I have scored well above their fuel economy ratings.

Gas is cheap, no one cares about fuel mileage anymore. Just to make up for all the money in gas I've been saving, I dump 3 gallons on the ground everytime I fill up.

with mine boosted i average about 23-25 mpg. . it used to be 30-33

if i didnt boost at all my tune is leaner around my cruise range than factory's tune and i'd get more mpg

He's a bit of a Hypermiler from what I've read, he travels almost all highway and has his B16A2 in an HX chassis. Last time I saw him post he was saying how he spikes his fuel with Acetone

Right now even in the winter I am getting about 50mpg per tank, which is def down b/c of the cold weather and ethanol in our gas.

I have a 00 hatch so its very light and have little to nothing in the car and no panels or parts really behind the front seats.

There are lots of things you can do to get good gas mileage. One big thing is to slow down, you aren't really driving fast but once you get over 50mph our cars really really start to suffer from drag and wind resistance.

Make sure you put your tires to what the max side wall is, use 0w30 synthetic oil, slow down, when accelerating shift at 2-2200 rpms and accelerate briskly, don't floor it but doing this keeps your engine in the best BSFC therefor driving your car as effciently as possible.

There are lots of other "techniques" you could use but most people are to resistant to change to try them.
