Engine Bay Shave - How long did it take you?
I'm in the middle of shaving my engine bay but cant believe how long its taking. I never would have started it if I knew it was this big of a job.
I'm starting to think i'm doing things the really long way round.
So, for you guys that have done an engine bay shave, how long did it take you from the first bit of sanding to the last coat of paint?

There are several levels of "shave", time how long it takes you to finish one hole and then count what you have left, should give you an idea, not everybody works at the same speed.

Ive got about a 100 hours + in mine. I have yet to do my brake lines, fuel lines, or wiring harness.
ALOT of welding. all seams were welded on both sides.

The majority of the ones that are memorable have taken close to 100 or more hours from what I have seen. Now that is doing everything right and not cutting corners. You could probably get by with less sanding of filler if you used a high build primer to help even out the bay and then the blocking of the primer would finish it off. Or you could just use POR15 and call it a day after the prep.

POR15 doesnt do well on filler..lol best on bare metal. my friend learned the hard way it flaked off very easy. i used some filler sanded most of it off then i shot it with a coat of epoxy. then 2 coats of Slick sand and it was easy to work with. messed up and hit it with another coat of slicksand. and now final sand with some 400 Grit then im ready for primer. i wouldnt be suprised if i have 150+ hours when im all done
2 Years got me this far (was about a month or so after this picture was taken and i was finished). If i have to turn all the work into hours i would say its about 250 hour easy.
Thanks. As for the manifold it is a Nuekin VVrace manifold. Im not sure if he still makes them or not but i liked it. Made good power and descent spool time on a SC6152. Only thing i didnt like about it was that it sat the turbo low. Soon to be for sale for a new design with bigger turbo.
not really that long.. just about 10 hours from the first weld to the finished product.

That looks incredible.I didnt even shave or tuck the engine bay in my s2000.Just tore it apart for a color change and it still took forever. All that prep work takes time.
