Default What else to do with a blown head gasket?

At first I didn't know what was wrong with my engine because it wouldn't start. So I opened up the head and found coolant in the cylinders. I researched online and found out the symptoms with having coolant in cylinders, white smoke from headers, greyish smoke from exhaust = that I had a blown head gasket. (So I hope)

Then I checked to see if my head was warped, it was fine. I bought a new head gasket ($80), cleared out the cylinders, sprayed WD-40 inside, bought Mobil1 oil so when I place the head back on I will give it an oil change, also new coolant.

NO I HAVE NOT PUT THE HEAD ON (yet).

I want to know what else to do before I waste $300 to place it on and my car still won't run.

What caused this? I mis-shifted from 3rd to 4th gear at 70mph

A missed shift is not likely to cause a blown head gasket. Did the engine stop running immediately after you did that?

could of cracked a sleeve. I would suggest getting the head resurfaced for your security. Get arp headstuds, honda bond...and recheck your bottom block...

I took it to a Honda shop and had them straight edge it for $85'ish

After misshifting on the freeway, I was able to get back home. Drove back home like nothing happened.. But I was so scared that I blew my engine or something, that I checked for a temperature change but it was fine throughout the way.

Were they all filled with coolant before you pulled the head? Did you pull the plugs and find them filled or did they have coolant in them when you pulled the head off?

A car would run like *** cheeks if coolant was in all 4 cylinders.. suprised you would make it home ok if that was the case.
