i have a 2000 honda accord (4cyl, auto, lx, 2dr). the brake lamp light is on and i cant figure out why. i have checked all of my brake lights; my corner lights, and my license plate light. does anyone know if this light serves another purpose? any help is appreciated. thanks in advance.

to clarify - it is my brake lamp light that is on, not the brake light itself. i looked in the manual and it said it is to notify me that one of my brake lights is out, but i checked all of mine and none of them are out. as far as i know, the brake lamp light has absolutely nothing to do with the actual braking system (aside from the tail lights).

If his 2000 is similar to my 1992 EX in this regard, I thought he was referring to the Brake Lamp Light (which on mine is below the trunk in the car diagram that indicates doors/trunk open).

My 92 has the same Brake Lamp Light issue and I've been planning to check the taillamp sensors units but have not had time to.

There is a component which resides just behind the outboard tail lamps called a lamp failure module. refer #20 on the supplied link:

so i got it all figured out. it was one of the trunk lights. it would work fine with just my lights on, but would not get brighter when i pressed on the brake. the reason i did not guess this is because i thought if it worked without me braking, it should work while braking. the bulb was only halfway in the socket (my guess is from it being on the trunk lid and me slamming it all the time). thanks for all of the help guys.

I have the exact same problem "Brake Lamp" indicator is lit up on the dash with no brake lights out. I have replaced all the lights (both lower and one upper) but to no avail. Is there a way to test the sensor and see if it is malfunctioning before one is purchased? Someone in another thread talked about grounding out the white gree wire, but there are two wires with white and green on them. There is a white with green stripe and a green with white stripe. Any techincal assistance for testing the sensor would be greatly appreaciated.

Thanks for the reply so quickly..but its the brake lamp indicator, which tells you if you have a brake light out. Not the brake light that comes on with the e-brake. I am going to replace all my bulbs tomorrow and see if i have any luck.

 

I replaced all of the bulbs..no luck. The turn signal ballast was a little corroded so i cleaned it all out, but still didn't shut off the light. I guess the next step is to see if the sensor is grounded properly.

 

I have a 1991 accord w/350,000 miles. my brake lamp indicator on the instrument panel is on and my right side and top brake light are not working but all are actually good. I replaced the right side lamp failure module and all worked for several weeks but failed again. Can anyone give me any ideas?

 

just in case anyone doesn't know, if you try and use any LED brake light bulbs, the sensor will indicate that a brake light is out
