Default Driving Auto Tranny for MPG

I was wondering how you would drive an automatic to save as much gas as possible?

Do you get up to the speed you want as quickly as possible?

or

Do you slowly accelerate to that speed?

That's just driving for any car in general, I'm talking about specifically driving an automatic.

Slow, steady acceleration is by far the best way. Keep as much weight out of your car as possible, propper alignment and tire psi etc etc...

EcoModder is a good site to learn more.

I didn't ask about coasting, turning off ignitions, or drafting. My question is directly specified towards accelerating in an automatic. I appreciate you trying to help though.

Think about it. the harder you mash the accelerator the more fuel you expend. It is worse for automatics in that your going through fuel while the tranny is trying to shift. This decreases efficiency. If you accelerate slowly, it best uses the fuel to deliver power. This applies to automobile regardless of tranny.

slowly accelerating to speed is best for fuel mileage on any car including automatics.
