Default 99 SSBP GSR small build

This won't be a complete tear down and restore filled with tons of expensive parts, but I wanted to document what I did anyways. I'll start off with a bit about me. I've been playing around with Honda's since I was 15 (22 now) and I've had 2 del Sols, a GSR, and an s2000. I graduated from school in May and grew tired of sending $300/mo to a bank and set out to sell the s2000.

I ended up trading cars with a guy that was pretty close. I got his 1999 SSBP GSR out of it. The car has been built up pretty well, JDM front, some aero pieces, and a ProCharger blower. But there were a few things I just couldn't leave alone.

Current Specs:

Exterior:
- JDM Front Conversion
- Sir-G Chrome Headlights
- Spoon Style Lip (Molded)
- Cwings Cwest style Hood
- OEM Optional Sides
- OEM Optional Rears (molded)
- 96 Spec JDM tails
- Shaved moldings, emblems

Interior:
- Buddy Club P-1 Limited Seat (Black)
- Buddy Club Low Down Rails
- Buddy Club Shift type A ****
- Password JDM Shift Boot
- Black Suede Headliner
- Carbon Hatch Cover
- Alpine CD player w/ iPod connect

Suspension:
- WedSport TC05
- Dunlop Z1's 195/55/15
- TEIN HA Coilovers
- ITR lower control arms
- Skunk2 Front Camber Kit
- OMNI Rear Camber Kit
- Comptech Rear Swaybar
- Comptech Front Strutbar

Motor/Tranny:
- Procharger Kit w/ Intercooler
- Port/Polished Intake Manifold
- RC 440cc Injectors
- JDM ITR Header
- High Flow Cat
- JDM Greddy exhaust
- Hondata s200 (7lbs, 245hp/161tq)

Timeline

Here's what it looked like when I picked it up:

First thing I did was to remove all of the stickers and the wing. I brought it home and went at it with a hair dryer and some goo gone. I also took off the spoiler. Stickers came off easily but the spoiler has some adhesive on it and took some paint with it. I've covered the trunk area with some electrical tape for now until I decide what I want to do.

After that I thought about what I wanted to do with the car. I ended up deciding on a modified Sir-G theme. Everyone and their mom has the type-r look so I wanted to go with something not as common. Exact parts haven't really been planned out, but I made my first move by ordering chrome housing lights, amber side markers, and JDM tails.

Unfortunately for me, the corner on my taillights broke in shipping, I got them stupid cheap on eBay, so I'll just get another set later.

Christmas netted me some new front speakers to replace the blown fronts, a Password JDM shiftboot, and a Buddy Club Type A shift **** (on backorder, should be here soon)

I'll take real pictures when the **** gets here.

Next up had to be the wheels, after searching around I was set on ordering Buddy Clubs but came across some WedSport TC05's on here from SHG_EasyE for a sweet deal. I can't wait for them to arrive so I can take off these wagon wheels.

Where I go from here is sort of up in the air. I'm hoping to get rid of the exhaust soon. There's a local guy that wants to trade me his Apexi WS2, hopefully that happens. Otherwise I might go for an ITR cat-back. I'm done with loud exhausts, so either of those would be great.

Here's the tentative plans:

- Either have the trunk sealed and painted, or go CF hatch
- Either have the hood repaired and fully painted or get another hood
- Remove the molded front lip and replace with either a Spoon lip or OEM ITR lip
- ASR rear brace

Outside of that I'm not sure what I'll do, I don't want or need to mess with the motor setup it has plenty of power, I'd love to just fix up the small things on the exterior/interior and then beef up the suspension.

Also, I have the following for sale. PM me if interested:

- Set of JDM SirG lights painted black housing. Wasn't masked the best and lenses need a wetsand/buff. I'm going to clean these up if I get the time.
$125 Shipped OBO
- Flushmount type spoiler painted SSBP.
$150 Shipped OBO

I got some cloth seats to swap out the leathers. Much better now, I'm not a huge leather fan.

Then my wheels got here, had some issues getting the old ones off due to a locking nut, but they are on now/

At the chargrill for lunch:

Went out and took some real pictures today:

The wheels completely change the car, looks so much nicer now.

Next up is a new exhaust!

I'm not a huge fan of the hood and the lip either, but they're not too bad. I'm hoping to fix/change them up this year. But the wheels and exhaust need replacing first.

I just used a 19mm Socket to torque them down. I was careful when I slid it on and off so I didn't scratch the lugs.

Was this car on carolinahondas awhile back? Car has come along way, I'd say once you find a nice hood and more subtle lip you'll be good to go.

Yup, I'm working on it, I think I'll have the hood painted all the way and get a new lip and call it a day.

I just ordered a BuddyClub P1 limited seat in black/red with rails. Should be here next week. Exhaust is being traded off this weekend.

I've also ordered a few bits from Acura (VC gasket, ebrake handle button, armrest hole filler) and will be changing the oil out this weekend.

Pictures to come!

Nice teg man, the optional sides are great! I don't think mine are real, but they still look nice, I'd prefer the rears to not be molded, but oh well.

Changed the oil this weekend at a friends garage (he's got a real lift to use, so it was super easy) found where my small oil leak was coming from, the oil pan gasket. One of my CV boots is also ripped, ugh.

Went to trade the exhaust yesterday but the other exhaust wouldn't fit for some stupid reason, I decided I couldn't take it anymore and bought a silencer off of ebay until I can afford to replace the exhaust.

Seat should be here Friday so I'll be posting pictures of that when it comes.

the car looks great now. Personally I think the hood looks nice, but I'm not a fan of the black stripe down the center of it.

It's just exposed CF, I actually like the hood itself, I think I'm just going to get it repaired and fully painted.

After failed attempts to trade the exhaust I decided to try and get a silencer for it. A trip to eBay and $10 later I got a silencer that is made for 4" exit exhausts. It was slightly too big (seems they didn't really account for the inside diameter). I took my car out to where I do all my technical work, a garage owned by a family friend. He built it and lets me use it whenever I need too, tons of sweet tools there.

Here's the GSR backed in so we can test fit the silencer as we resized it.

We took a hammer and dolly to it to make the silencers diameter smaller then cut slits in the outer rim to let it compress as we hammered it in. The people you see in the pictures are my dad and the family friend.

We then coated the silencer in an aluminum oxide paint to prevent it from rusting since we cut it and all that.

The sound difference is incredible, I can hear myself think now while driving, yay!

Then I met up with a friend to pick up my new part he ordered for me.

When I removed the seats before to get the cloth seats, I notice my carpet had some stains, so I got some carpet cleaner and went at it, here are the results.

I ran out of light by the time I got the seat in, but here she is:

Going sort of slow right now, I need to stop spending money.

I'm working on a few things though:

- Going to lower the car a little to eliminate some wheel gap soon.
- Trying to source some red microfiber/suede to do my door panels and elbow rest.
- Looking for aftermarket mats that are direct replacements for the OEM mats but without logo's.
- Going to get an estimate this month for color matching the hood and fixing my hatch.
- Saving for a Rando Sports front bumper.

I'm having fun replacing axles (got new ones but one is bad, so I have to replace it) and replacing rotors/pads this week.

I'll post pictures when I finish the brake install on Sat.

I've also got a really cool project I'm working on for my hatch, should be sweet.

Pictures from the brake work.

On the lift!

The old and the busted.

New hotness rotor, they're coated on the black parts so that you don't get the surface rust, ballin.

The rears assembled.

The fronts weren't bad condition wise, but I figured why not get it all done.
