Hey what up everyone,
Like the title says, Im looking into buying a laptop strictly for tuning purposes. Since Im only using the laptop to tune on I dont think it has to be some monster computer. I was wondering what the system capabilities should be like. If you have a current laptop that has been doing a good job please let me know specs on it. Any words of wisdom about tuning will be appreciated.
Thanks

the more RAM the better.
My old laptop has 512MB of RAM and it did the job for 2-3 years.
My new laptop has 3Gig of RAM and its bloody amazing, it datalogs/emulates quicker, is smaller (12" compared to my old 15") and has the USB inputs on the back of the computer (old one had them on the sides, which I didn't like).
I couldn't imagine using something crappier than my old laptop to tune a car with. I'd say get something with at least 1Gig of RAM.

I would suggest running a lot of ram if your laptop has windows vista on it.
One important feature a lot of people overlook is battery life..
It is nice to not always have to have 12 volts.

i just purchased an ACER aspire one, its 8.9'' and has 1gb ram and 120 gb memory, its tiny enough to sit on your lap while driving and has workked perfect for me so far. best part of it, its got windows XP (a plus for me) and only cost me 350 bux!!
Computers are so cheap right now. I grabbed my new HP laptop (3Gig of RAM, 120 Gig hard-drive, AMD turion processor, 12" screen) for like $700 in the summer (down in ohio) from Office Depot. And I just grabbed a HP pavillion PC for home, (4Gig of RAM, 500Gig hard-drive, Intel Pentium Dual Core processor, 20" flat-screen monitor) up here in Canada for $800 from Best Buy.
IMO its not worth buying a cheap(er) laptop for tuning, b/c A) you get what you pay for and B) it'll be outdated before you take it out of the box.
Theres NOTHING wrong with using Vista with our tuning softwares. I've been using Vista on my new laptop since august and I've got AEM, Crome, Neptune and eCtune running on my laptop without any major issues.

with XP 1 gig of ram will be enough, with Vista, get 2. obviously the more the better but these minimums will be enough to run everything smoothly.

My laptop is in no way nice, and it gets the job done. It came with 512MB and I installed a 2 gig stick for like 40 bux. Intel Centrino Duo Processor WIndows XP. Can prolly be had for under 500 bux right now and is a champ. Pulls better framerates on testers than my buddies new 900 computer he bought for WoW.
I've been using an IBM ThinkPad T22 for the past year and a half. (yeah I know old but it's a tank and cheap) I'm running Win XP pro, 512Mb ram with a 900Mhz processor, 20G Hard drive and USB 2.0 Hub. I also use a 12v car adapter and I got it for well under $500, more like $250-300 and it works great. TurboEdit, Crome, eCtune, Logworks2, Flash & Burn...etc...etc all run and log without a glitch.
Look into the Lenovo S10. Unlike other small netbooks, you can upgrade to 2G. I paid $425 for mine, and it's a little badass. Battery life could be better, but it's long enough anything I need it for.
