Hey, anyone around the Ohio area w/ a zc that knows how to fine tune um and getting them running strong?


It seems like every night when i'm driving (seems to really do it at night) my car seems starts to overheat. I wont be driving the car hard, but actually taking it as easy as possible. (shifting at like 3 grand). The temp gauge will rise 3/4 the way up and then i'll turn on the heat and it will drop back to half. While this has been working, last night i was driving with the heat on full blast and the temp gauge got almost to HOT. The problem seems to be getting harder to control and this is my daily driver.

Any help?
I replaced the thermostat a couple weeks after I did the swap.

 

in another post, my problem was the fan relay... is your fan coming on? the fan relay is located under the air filter next to the battery. how old is the radiator? have you checked for leaks?

 

not sure if the fan is coming on or not. How do I check? Just let it idle and watch?

Radiator looks to be in good condition and doesn't leak.

 

When was the last time the rad cap was re-placed... Might be time, to take a look at that...

 

if the radiator isnt a rusty mess and you're full of fresh fluid then its either
1. thermostat
2. water pump (i'm betting on this one)
3. an angry mechanic filled your radiator with cheez whiz (not betting on this one)

*edit... it shouldnt be a problem with the fan as you said it happens when you are driving... the fan normally only does its thing when you are idling or in heavy traffic..

Fill your radiator up all the way, and then just let it idle. The fan should come on when it gets close to the half way point. But make sure you have the radiator full, because if not, then your sensor won't be able to read the water.
Also how old is your radiator cap? Mine used to run hot like that too, and all I did was replace the cap and walah. No more overheating. The cap I had was not sealing correctly due to the gasket being all torn up.

 

hey thanks for all the help..

a) the thermostat was replaced recently
b) the water pump was replaced at the time of swap.

that leaves me with either a coolant issue, fan relay, rad cap, or cheese whiz

Think i'm going to drain my coolant and put in all new and "borrow" the rad cap from my sisters crx and see if the problem goes away.

 

Let us know what happens.
