question on 0-60
hi i'm new my names brandon. i drive a 1998 honda accord 2 door..v-tec v6, it is a automatic. I recently installed a specter cold air intake on my car. It made a world of a difference but my acceleration is still slow 0-60, mostly because my car shifts hard. Is there anything i can do to solve this problem.
thanks

Short of a supercharger and a Manual Transmission implant (and forever giving up any chance of it being inspected), Not Much
The problem is that the Accord carries a real big load in it's pants (it's heavy) when compared to the Civic or Prelude.
The 3.0L V6 is a great improvement over the 2.7 and makes decent power. The problem lays with the Automatic transmission.
I'd bet your could drive it harder if you could trust the tranny more.

thanks for the help. is there anything i can buy parts wise...until i get a job that pays more. You know working at pizza hut doesn't pay out to much. my next investment is the Venom 400 performance chip.
For the headers: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/J30-A...spagenameZWDVW
-not sure if thats exactly the fitment for your car but look around. Your looking at about $100 for this setup. Just remember you get what you pay for.
If you finish the IHE setup, you should have some noticably extra horsepower, as well as a possible increase in your overall MPG. Its a start, on a limited budget.
Alright, so the V6 coupe is a nice looking car and its faster than the 4 cylinder model. However, there is one problem with the V6 models: They have VERY little upgrade potential (comparitively and cost wise). Now I'm not saying you can't make some power out of it, but I am saying it will most likely not be worth it in the end. As you have seen in the posts above, your transmission will be the main issue. Its useless. Even if you mod out the engine, you will just be held back. My advice if you really want to make a quick car: First, don't buy any more parts. Forget that Venom thing, it most likely won't do jack and is a waste of a few hundred dollars. Second, (if you want another accord) find a manual 4 cyl, get a turbo setup going in it, and sell your V6. You will have a more reliable car to make more reliable power from. I much prefer a V6 to a 4 cyl. (especially in sound) but the J30 = Not worth it in my book.

You should do a hmt setup, they aren't hard and relatively cheap, just need to figure out away to tune.. Maybe standalone or mega squirt, but my best advice is keep the accord stock, and buy a better platform to work with, and have that as your side project.

Yes, the body kit will do wonders, helping to break into those Mach Numbers and all.
98-02 accord V6 coupes are in the 7.3-8.2 second range with the 98LX V6 being the fastest and the 02 EX V6 being the slowest.
Headers will add 25hp to the top end but subtract low to mid range torque.
I just bought a faster car.....it was far less painful........
J30a1/a2 motors gain absolutely nothing from anything other than headers and axle back..
those motors have small valves and that is the major limiting factor....... you can gain a few HP by using CL-S cams but you will have to notch them if you use them on a J30a1 motor......

Forget all that fast and the furious BS if you want a "RELIABLE" car. You are not reading the answers that have been given to you in your thread.
