Which is better tire wheel combo for drag racing?
Ok I have a 99 Accord 4cyl that has a 4-114.3 lug pattern and I am looking for some lightweight wheels and drag radials. I have heard that if you go to light that all of weight goes to the outside of the wheels and that it screws with your track times. I am looking for some really lightweight wheels in my size that are 15 and it is really hard. I don't care if they are 14's-16's. I just want some drag tires and lightwheels for the front only for the track. I want to leave enough fender room so I won't rub my drag tires against anything. I haven't lowered the car or nothing yet. So any help would be good. I have never bought any drag tires and don't know too much about it all. Please help good brand of tires and wheels would be helpfull. Thanks again Matt aka Jaguar
Come on guys. A newbie to this needs some help. I have drag raced before but I don't know what kind of tires and stuff are good nor do I know if a light weight wheel will be the best or nothing. Please help.
have you ever run your car? start with your stock tires if youve never raced before, then go to drag tires. You may want to spend the money elsewhere before you address traction problems.
But as far as drag radials go, there are Nitto 555R and BFG G-force T/A. Most people prefer the G-Force. As far as wheels a Rota wheel or some Konigs or Kosei K-1 are light and cheap, or the Axis Lenso VPD. If you want to spend more there are Volk TE-37s and other japanese lightweight wheels.

Yeah as NegativeLift says, you need to run it as is to see how it goes with the tyres it has. How much power have you got????
The money might be better spent on eg: Headers for a bigger performance gain than dedicated drag tyres if your motor is stock.
More info and baseline results are needed.

No two wheel/tire combo's work the best for any one person. It really gets down to personal preference.
Ok first off I did say I have drag raced before. I go like every weekend to the local track. I always have massive will spin and now that my tires are getting worn out I am planning on changing them. I am putting my turbo on next week and so I will be putting more power to the ground. I drop the clutch at about 2200 RPM and I still get wheel spin. I have already been looking at some wheels and stuff for the car just needed some opinions on tires and wheels. I was looking for ppl that have had experience with drag tires and light weight wheels.
I have only used the Nitto 555R but people who have used both prefer the BFG G-Force T/A. The only downside is faster wear and cost.
As far as wheels, lightest is best, but is also most expensive. Make sure you get a decent width appropriate for your tires.
