Default 98 SI Overheating/Heat not working

I have a 98 Civic SI, about a week ago the temperature guage on the dash started going up to the redline when i was driving, it takes only a couple minutes. Also the heat is not working at all it just blows cold. I know that it leaks engine coolant and when I drive for along time steam starts to come from the rad. Does anybody know what the problems are?

Any help will be appreciated, thanks.

Your thermostat is stuck closed. Replace it 15.00 total.

x4 on thermostat being stuck closed. Check to make sure that there is coolant flowing through the upper radiator hose back to the radiator. If not, most likely that the thermostat is stuck closed. You should also be sure to fix your coolant leak to as it of course is not helping the problem.

The 98 SI is the same as a US EX which was 96-2000 with D16Y8. However its called an SI in Canada. Thanks for the help I just put alot more engine coolant into the rad and it has helped for now. But my engine check light is still on and im going tomorrow to get it looked at. How can leaks be fixed?

Um... you fix leaks like you fix any leak. Find where it's leaking from and fix the problem. lol
