Sponge-like piece in windshield washer reservoir?
Okay I searched and found nothing so please shoot me if this is somewhere to be found but please give me a little insight before you do.
I guess I never paid attention to it but in my 5G Prelude there was a yellow sponge-like strip (think thicker & more firm like a water noodle thing) in the fill neck of my windshield washer fluid reservoir. What the heck is this? In the 3 years I've owned this car I've always just stuck a funnel in the tube and poured more in but for some reason I looked down in there today and saw it in there. I grabbed some tools and fished it out as I see no reason for it but can someone tell me if this is some factory bit or maybe some gimmicky piece that was maybe for filtering or something..maybe a float?? It was slightly larger than the grid that is over the top of the neck so there is no way it just "slipped" in there...it had to have been forced in from the factory or the previous owner.
Any insight.
Thanks again H-T.

Haha....weight reduction? I keep a pair of 16 pound bowling ***** in the trunk so I dont have to go home and get them on league night. A 2oz sponge isnt going to affect me that much
It's really supposed to tell me it's full? Can't I just look and see when the fluid is at the top of the neck too? Seems easier to me...
Thanks though!

The washer fluid reservoir is mainly down behind the bumper so if you have it filled up to where you can see the fluid it's WAAAAAAAAAAYYYY overfilled. I think you read the marks on the side of the fill neck by seeing where the top of the float is.

This is correct, you read the marks on the filler neck based on the position of the top of the float. I usually just go till the float makes contact with the grate. If you fill it so that the fluid level is at the mark then it is overfilled and you're probably going to loose some into your engine bay when you hit bumps.
Sarcasm was detected and duly noted
I've been around HT long enough to know that there are two extremes of people on here....the stock DD's like myself and the carbon fiber-everything, gutted interior, 13.0:1CR H22 with a Qualife LSD, dry NOS, etc. I drive my car to drive my car and love the Prelude as it is...and just threw out my ADDITION of weight to irk the guys that strive to REDUCE theirs
Thanks all!
