Icon3 Insurance problem i drive maybe twice a month and....

they wont give me a decent rate. I have a DA that i drive daily so insurance is cheap and so i can keep wear off my type r. The only thing is that im 20 so insurance is high and they still want to charge over 300 a month for the r and like 100 for the da. I just drive the Type R if its nice and it rains alot in seattle so this time a year maybe once a month. is there any kind of collector insurance you can get on type rs. My car is rarely driven and has alot of mods so i want to be covered in the event that it comes up missing.

thanks guys my policy ends this week so im in a hurry to find new car insurance

Give Grundy a call to see if they will insure your R as a collector car.

Even though you have a daily your ins will still be up there cuz of the type of car. Insurance companies don't really care, especially on a car with a high theft rate and also your age. The best bet to lower just a little is putting the car under a parents name with more driving experience and just list you as a driver. Also look at your dec page on your insurance and make sure the listed miles are low. That saves a little also. OR just simply going to another insurance company.

damn man, I was 21 when I bought my GS-R and my rates for full coverage were only about $155/mo thru Allstate. $300/mo damn! Do you have a bad record or something?

it all depends on your area that you live and your age and credit...

best bet would be to insure it as collectors item if possible or under your parents....

ok the best way is to do this.

put the R under your parents name. they put you as a driver and then you will have a super low rate.

this is assuming that your parents dont have 49382 tickets and accidents

Do you still live at home? If not "sell" the car to your parents and dont even list yourself on the policy.

You really don't even need to go that far. You can have your parents put the car under their insurance and you will still be covered. When I had my black ITR back in 05 I had a couple points and a major violation so I had my mom insure the car. She wasn't even on the title or registration, nor did I live at home and our insurance agent knew that and she didn't have a problem. Later in the year the car was totaled by an uninsured driver so my insurance had to pay out and they did even though I wasn't on the policy.

I cant speak for people in other states but the "listed" drivers higher rates many times is what takes precedence.

OP: If you dont live @ home and have another policy putting the car under your parents name is your best bet.

Yeah, but if it WAS your fault you'd have been SOL and the INS Co. wouldn't have had to pay, and you'd have been liable for damages etc. to the other party!

... whatever

Why do yo say that? They had to pay me anyways even though it was the other drivers fault. If they found a reason to not pay they would of done no matter who's fault it was. We told our agent exactly what we were doing and she said people do it all the time.

I say that, because, according to what you've said above ... you weren't an insured driver in that car since it was insured in your mom's (parent's) name (apparently without you being listed as a driver, therefore the uninsured status), and had you been at fault you'd be in DEEP ****!

Think about it.
Who got the check for your car, you or your MOM?

[deleted]Is moron too strong a word?
Or maybe just asshat?
What's the difference between simply "ignorant" and outright "stupid"? ... just asking? [/deleted]

BTW have a happy and safe New Years!

P.S. If you were at fault (whether or the insurance agent knew what was going on or not), the agent would have followed the policy and you wouldn't have been covered unless your mom said she let you "use" the car, in which case there would have been numerous hoops to jump through to have them cover the incident, and to do so you may have needed to pay the insurance which would have been due if you HAD been correctly insured.

Do you REALLY want to suggest such a dilemma to others?

Now you're just making assumptions and throwing out insults when you really don't know what you are talking about.

Btw they cut a check to my bank to pay off my loan and then I got the remainder of the payout. Almost all insurance policies cover any license driver so it doesn't matter than my Mom wasn't driving, just as long as I'm licensed to drive and I was given permission to drive the car and obviously I did since it was mine. Check your policy if you don't believe instead of calling me a moron, asshat and ignorant.

Also if anything we did was illegal the insurance company wouldn't of paid out over $20,000. They asked us every single question you could think of about who owned the car, who drives it, etc and they didn't find any problems with what we did.

I think you've missed my point.

Had you been at fault, there would have been additional issues, and the only thing that would have saved you is if you were "allowed" to drive the car by the actually insured party.

Furthermore, it woud probably be a matter of fraud, otherwise, and any back due insurance may have needed to be paid for your part of the policy ...

P.S. What's with the "don't judge or question" title/moniker?
And may I call you "********"?

How is it fraud when we disclosed exactly what we were doing?

Again everything you stated is just your opinion. Whereas what I have stated is from experience and from talking to many different insurance agents about it and from talking to my aunt who is a manager of the claims department for a branch of State Farm. But I guess you win since I'm just an ignorant moron.

Look, I'm not contesting the facts of your situation, in which you clearly stated that you were essentially an uninsured driver, and someone else was at fault when some other uninsured motorest totals the car (when you were apparently driving).

What I'M saying is that, had it been your fault, threre would have been a lot more questions and the claim/payment may/would have not been handled as smoothly.

Ask your insurance relatives how this might actually work without "family" help on boths sides of the insurance policy.

Nothing personal with you (except for the possible ignorance aspect, and I still think you're a dick/moron).
I'd just hate to have others think this is actually "OK", and then get screwed when something actually happens.

Well that, and I'm trying to get banned by the end of the year.

I actually didn't have help from my family because my insurance was with 21st. I understand what you are saying and you are flat out wrong. My insurance had to pay me so it doesn't matter who was at fault. If they found something wrong with what we did they wouldn't of paid out such a large sum.

I hope that you do get banned because you are a total douche bag. Calling me a moron because you disagree shows how much of a douche you really are. Keep up the good work.

From what You said above, you've clearly skirted the disclosure requirements of who was generally/normally driving the car.

You've at least implied that the car was insured in your mom's name, w/o you being a listed driver. That's clearly fraud!

You seem to have lucked out under the uninsured motorest portion of the policy, which was in your mom's name. Apparently someone overlooked the fact that your mom didn't actually "own" the car, or ... it was actually an insurance policy on a car she didnt's actually own (and may not even have had a right(?) to insure.

What more do I need to say?
Check with your agent (off the record).

And don't bother coming back here if you're wrong.

Apparently you aren't actually reading what I'm writing. We did tell the insurance agent that, the car was in my name, I drove it every day and my Mom was insuring it for me to drive. She recommended that we not even add me as a driver because she said that I we would be covered as long as I had a valid drivers license.

This all happened back in 05 and have since put the insurance in my name after my rates finally went down below my Mom's. So if you want to prove me wrong go call your agent because I have already stated what mine said and what actually happened. If the OP wants to take my advice they can have their parents contact their insurance agent. They might say the same thing I was told or something different but at least I'm trying to help where you are just trolling. I also have to get ready to go out so I'm done with you. Go troll the GDD forum if you are looking to get banned tonight.

LOL! Help? GTFO

GDD? You're kidding, right?

And, as I've stated above ... you're no help, and may get people in some real trouble with your comments, which is why I've posted above. <sigh>

Oh another thing, Sacremento ... is that a "no fault" state?
Not personally sure how that matters here, but something to be considered.

P.S. ...and one last time for the record, anyone that has "Don't judge or question" as a heading title, ect. can't be anything but a ****tard/asshat/moron or other thype of ibecile... since no one's perfect!

P.S I missed ****tard

wow the type of **** you're pulling is definitely fraud in my area.

cause insurance company's here will only insure the registered owner of the vehicle, they will not allow another person to insure the vehicle unless his/her name is stated on the vehicle ownership.

with that also being said, you're allowed to "borrow" the car to another person, but most ins companies here make you sign liability waivers if you decide to not list a family member or a member in there household as a secondary driver. Cause than they are avoiding paying for premiums to use the vehicle.

however, in the event there is an accident and you're "AT FAULT" and you're not listed on the policy, the insurance company does have the right to not to pay out and pay for the other party, and at that time, the other party can sue you for everything you got.

and like ziggyspeed said, and i'm not taking any sides, but what you're doing spidas5 is a huge risk when you're at fault.

and just because your insurance paid you, it doesn't mean that your mom didn't speak to the adjuster and had the check re-named to your bank to payoff loan.

and as ziggyspeed has said many times, you are definitely lucky that it wasn't your fault, cause if it was your fault, you'd definitely be in different shoes or speaking differently.

my friend got into an at-fault accident with your situation, and the insurance company made him sign waivers if he wasn't to be insured by the company. but they did pay everything out, but the policy owner is now hit with an at-fault claim for 6 years as well as my friend the driver.
