Default Low compression = no spark?

Basically I replaced my headgasket and did a compression test. These are the results as follows.

#1- 165
#2 - 175
#3 - 175
#4 - 165

Basically #''s 1 and 4 don't seem to be firing (i.e when we pulled the spark plugs, they were black covered and it smelled of fuel). Does this mean that there is no spark being sent to the spark plugs and no detonation or does low compression = no combustion even if there is a spark???

And does anyone know the ideal compression specs for a 99-00 D16y7??? Did a google search and one person posted around 180's???

Thats not terrible compression. It shouldnt keep the motor from firing, i had rings go bad in my #2 cyl. and it was at 90psi and it still fired. what you can do though, is take out a spark plug and put it on the end of the spark plug wire and crank the car over to still if its sparking. Make sure you take out the fuel pump fuse so your car isnt running while the spark plug is out.
