D16z6 boosting questions!!!!
I heard the stock D16z6 motor is good up to 250 whp or so on boost before any upgrades are recommended, is this true??? Is it advisable to run a stock motor on boost?? I thought you should at least get the low comp pistons and heavier duty rods, springs, retainers etc.
Any input would help!
Thanx.

I wouldn't run a stock motor with high mileage on boost. I have a d16z6 with arp studs, vitara low comp. pistions, eagle forged rods, micropolished crank, comp cam 59300, and my block decked and honed. All the machining and rebuild was $900

First off, let me just say, if you are serious about going turbo, do your research and youll have less headaches.
The D16Z6 is a good motor for boost, its internals can handle about 220hp safely and there are cases of people running 220-250hp on stok internals but you gotta question yourself and wonder how long they will last.
The way I look at it, if you plan on going above 210hp or so, breakdown and do a rebuild man, youll have a fast reliable motor and not very expensive.
You can run boost stock no problem but if youre going to spend money on a turbo setup then youre going to want lots of power right? Most people are happy with 200 hp but you should go for 250 or more and spank B series and Ks all day. All you need is some new pistons like vitaras or others( im not sure what people are using these days, go over the forced induction forum and look at the faq stickied at the top) and some new connecting rods like eagles. Maybe some headwork would also be very good like a port and polish if you can afford it. New valves and valve springs and retainers would make it better but im not sure if its required to run safely over 220, again, do your research, i dont know all this but its what I know from my research. Remember too, its all in the tune, dont skip on it! Good luck.
