My thanks to some great people!
First off if you weren't at CMP this weekend or generally don't care what I have to say then this thread is not for you. There will be no cliff notes. Some of the people are not on this board but I am sure that one of you can direct this to them.
This past week has not been the best for me. Friday was the icing on the cake. In a time of great need several individuals came through for me in a big way and I would like to publically thank them because I am sure I did not thank them all at the time.
First off - The Politi family. Each and every one of them took the time out of their respective duties to help me out.
- Tony and Alicia: You two took it upon yourselves to come and find me so that I could be checked to make sure I was ok. You ignored my yelling, cursing and babbling to see to it that I was cared for. I know I did not thank you two for this at the time. Thank you for showing such concern for me.
- Elyse and Jim: Both of you made sure that I was ok repeatedly as well as offered to do anything you could to help me. I saw a different side of Jim - a side which makes me feel even more confident that when each of us put on our helmets we are being watched by someone who truely cares for each and every one of us. Yes Jim will give you a hard time about your socks and gloves - but there is a reason why. Thank you Elyse and Jim.
- Diane: Even with your busy and tiring day you still put everything else aside to console me and help me rationalize everything and put it all into perspective. I know that had I asked you would have skipped out on the remainder of the day's activities to stay with me. Thank you Diane.
- JJ (Jim Johnson): You were the first person to speak to me after the incident (since I was next to you). Even though you were dealing with a red-flag situation you still found the time to keep me from totally losing it. Thank you JJ.
- Jason Franza: You were the first ECHC person to come looking for me to offer your condolences. You came to see if there was anything you could do to help me. That meant a lot to me. Thank you Jason.
- Chad Slagg: You spent a good deal of time talking to me about some stuff. Whether you know it or not theses conversations went a long way in helping me deal with the situation. Thank you Chad.
- Alex Ratcliff: You too came looking for me and you too offered to help me out if you could. You also gave me something to do that allowed me to still participate with the ECHC even though I wasn't on track. Thank you for thinking of me when looking for people to help.
Ron Spencer: You helped get the car on the trailer and spent a good amount of time helping tie down the cover. You went out of your way to help me and it is very much appreciated. Thank you Ron.
The rest of the ECHC/NASA family has all been great as well. You all made sure I knew I was being thought of and I am thankful for this. Right here is the reason why I chose the ECHC and NASA to start my racing career in. Thank you all.
I know I have forgotten people. As I remember I will add you to the thread.
Finally - a select few of you still managed to come up with a few negative comments regarding both Keith and myself. What was the point of having opinions on something that you were not part of and were not even at the track to see occur? How does that help the situation? It doesn't. None of the people listed above and their actions will be forgotten. Neither will yours. Just remember that walls have ears and you need to know who is around you before you start talking.
I look forward to building my new car. Building them is half of the fun for me. I will be back to the ECHC although it probably won't be this season. I may make it in time for the November PARRC weekend at Summit however this is iffy.

It's never a problem, Drew. Again, I'm so sorry about what happened. I'll always do anything to help any of the group out

Darn, Drew. You've sure been snakebit this year. Glad that no one got hurt, and that you were supported by such great folks. I wouldn't have expected any less from the ECHC/NASA crowd.
Maybe when you get the new car finished you should have it blessed, or exorcised, or something. Know any Witch Doctors?

On a lighter note - how did Diane's first race weekend (as a participant) go?
Cliffs Notes: Racing is cool!!!
Someone else wrecked my car while I watched it happen from about 100 yards away.
First time, was my first ITA CRX (v1.0)... I put hours and hours into the car then had to sell it when we had our first child and I needed to grow up. I watched the new owner shorten the wheelbase by about a foot. I was sick for days even though, technically, it wasn't mine anymore.
Second time... brand new ITA CRX (v2.0) with 4 races on it. We were at a test day and I decided to let my engine builder do a few laps to help sort out the handling. Four laps into his run, I'm watching him (from about 25') go through a long right hander. I'm thinking, Hmmm, that's a weird line... hey, why is that left front wheel departing the car.... uh-oh, he's not turning.... SLAM! The hub broke, he was a passenger. It wasn't his fault but the car was totalled.
I'm not on ITA CRX v3.0 and NOBODY drives it but me!

The good news is that .... um ... uh ... I can't think of anything. Oh yeah, the good news is that nobody was hurt.Edit: Did the seat hold up OK?

Drew, when I showed up for working on Saturday I couldn't figure out why everyone was asking how you were doing. I saw you at the driver's meeting and you looked ok. It wasn't till later in the day after JJ and Chuck had explained what happened that I understood. I'm glad that Keith is ok (which from what I hear he was quite lucky), and that you were still able to make the most of the weekend. I talked to you briefly, but honestly I wasn't sure what else I could say that everyone else hadn't already told you a million times. If there is anything you need, any help at all just let me know, I'm just a short drive away.
I just want to 2nd all the thanks Drew sent out. I also want to thank all the classroom instructors that really helped deal with the situation from a drivers standpoint. The Politi's were a big help in the healing process for Drew and I. I really want to exspress what wonderful people they really are, peoples true colors shine threw when tragedy strikes and like Drew said it is great to know that there are people that really care for you.
Thanks to Diane, Ron, and David who also really helped with the healing process, it was great spending the weekend with you all.
to everyone for the kind words.
Keith-who DIDN'T lift in the kink!

Keith, I am glad you had decent time with us and is was good to see that you and Drew could even chuckel a little about the whole situation. It was cool that Drew , Chris??!?! and you hung around and helped out.. .when most people would have left right after that happened but all three you stayed and crewed helped.
Special thanks to drew with helping out the NASA Offical Type people by offering to do what ever including driving a flat tow truck... and other things.

Drew, I'm glad that you're ok and that the one driving your car was ok also. I got a chance to look at the car and it's very fortunate no one was injured. I wish I would have been able to find you this past weekend and introduce myself to you, but maybe I'll get a chance to do that sometime soon. My sincere condolences to you. If there's anything you need, you know this is the place to ask. I hope you get back out there and do what you love doing again soon!
I'm not sure what happened out there but I have seen like situations occur with borrowed/loaned cars... It can make the rest of the weekend hellish for all around.
Just remember, that we all understand the risks and have accepted the notion that our cars can be demolished at any time - at the fault of ourselves or others. The most important thing is the friends and fellow drivers walk away from incidents unharmed...
Good luck on the new build, Drew.

How about a del sol tub?
1. Light
2. Short wheelbase
3. Good custom cage solves the body flex issue
4. Shares a bunch of parts with the GSR
5. It's not a hatchcrap
Thanks ahelluvalot again for the check valve Drew. With it I won Sunday's race. Without it I was parked and spectating.
