Default Evo guy with ITR questions...

Hey all, I drive an Evo and was looking at picking up an ITR for a second fun car to beat on. I was wondering if there's a specific model year that you guys prefer in terms of fun to drive and performance? Like maybe any kind of differences like power or weight that I should take into account before picking one up?

They are essentially all the same, power and styling wise, unless you pick up a 1997 ITR, it has the slightly more "dated" front and rear body. It mainly comes down to color, 97-98 is champ white and 00-01 is phoenix yellow, flamenco and nighthawk black.
There is a stickied thread at the top of this forum with only Type R's for sale. GL

So other than cosmetic changes there's no difference with all the USDM ITR's in the performance, weight, stopping, and/or fun to drive factor?

LOL I don't know about that 'cause just like with my Evo I intend to keep it until it's been driven into the ground and is undrivable. That or I have a family.

I was wondering the other day how many 97's are actually left. Not many I'm sure.
But in reply to the OP, YOU BETTER HAVE A SAFE PLACE TO KEEP IT OR YOU WON'T HAVE IT LONG!!!!!!!!!

The ITRs were imported into the U.S. over a four year period (1997-98, 2000-01), and are all basically the same. The ITR is a very reliable car, with stable and predictable handling characteristics. Although it's probably the best handling stock FF car, it will not match the cornering speed you're used to from the EVO on a road course. The ITR is probably more reliable than the EVO however.

~200 with clean titles

who knows how many are actually in good shape

97's have the best resale since they have the unique front end.. followed by 98's... they are the hardest to find in good condition.

If you are just looking for something to beat on, get a 2000/2001. They are cheaper and easier to find.

Thanks for the input, guys. I'll be looking for a 2001. As for safety I wouldn't be driving this around town or commuting. It would be strictly for fun 'cause I wouldn't want it stolen from some random parking lot. If not in use I'd keep it blocked in the driveway by my Evo.

If you are looking at a 2001, you should also look at 2000 models also.

Outside of the black vs charcoal floor mats and NBP and FBP black paint, they are identical. No major resale value difference

Exactly. I already have a daily driver and like to play with the Evo. An ITR would be another play car for me and I like cars that not too many people own.

Most street EVO entry and mid-cornering speeds aren't really that impressive. It's the exit speeds.

A stock ITR vs. a stock EVO with competent drivers on a short course would be a fun race to see.

I could be misinformed but i thought 98+ models had better flowing heads after honda reworked them for the new release of the updated body styles etc.. if its true i dont know if it even lead to any better performance or w/e. Just my .02

Not to scare you or make you paraniod. I'm not sure how much you have or haven't read so far. Please take time to search out some of the stolen ITR threads. You can never be too careful with these cars.
If you do get one please come back with some good pics.

You daily drive an ITR in the Bay Area? You are a brave soul.

Oh I'm well aware of ITR theft. Around where I live there's lots of ricers so anything Honda will get stolen quickly. I would imagine that even parking an ITR in a really nice neighborhood around here it would still get stolen in minutes.
