CRX hatch glass-- buy JY hatch, or buy JY glass and replace?
Well, I *thought* it might be simpler than a windshield replacement, but a brief search has led me to believe otherwise, so now I submit the question.
I just bought a 91 HF that has a pretty nice hatch on it, but it needs the glass. The car is red, and the paint is decent/good.. so I would REALLY rather try to keep the hatch thats on it, on it.
There is one CRX in the boneyards near me that has a hatch with good glass. Its blue, it has a single significant ding in the rear edge of the hatch, but the glass is good. JY wants ~30 for the glass itself, and ~60 for the whole hatch.
I need to have a windshield put in my car, too...
So I am curious. Opinions and explanations why.. should I.......
.....Buy the blue batch and put it on the car?
.....Get the glass out of the hatch in the JY, save 30 bucks, and try to put it in myself?
.......Get the HATCH out of the junkyard, but try to figure it out myself back at the shop?
.......or, Get the glass (one way or another) and see how much the windshield people will charge me to put it in?
If the piano wire method is all that works, then I may be best off just changing over hatches... it just seems a shame to me to discard my whole hatch because of a broken window, when my replacement candidate is in poorer shape.
thanks in advance!!!
