so what was the story on the bent in 1/2 gsr on friday at cmp
Very scary stuff. I, along with Dan (observing instructor), had a front row seat. I'll let someone else tell the story as well.

The driver went 2 off tracking out of the Kink (10) and before he could drive straight off, the car had wipped around and he was flying off the track, both feet in, and stopped when the car hit a tree. It ws the scariest f*cking thing I've seen at the track with my own 2 eyes. Keith was fine (well, he wasn't physically hurt) and when the comp school de-breifed about it it was decided that there was nothing that really could have been done differently (except for possibly the set up for it) to have avoided the situation. (There were 2 instructors right behind the incident, then me and another SM car.)
r2x ~ who was going through the kink as this all happened. she said some VERY unladylike words.

Doh.
Never noticed there were trees near the kink.
Matt-observing a moment of silence for the passing of a race car....

The car was mine. I loaned it to Keith for the comp school. **** happens and then you move on. It is all part of racing.
So far the damage is as follows. Keep in mind that a race car is 2 parts, the tub and the running gear. If you DON'T look at it this way then the best thing to do is to stay out of the sport because you will be in for a lot of heart-ache:
- 1 1995 Acura Integra tub (could probably be back-halfed but why?)
- 2 Tokico Illumina shocks (5 year old hand-me-downs)
- 1 Carrera coilover sleeve
- 1 Rota Subzero wheel
- 1 Kumho V700 Victoracer 205/50/15
- 1 rear STB
- 1 ITR front lip
Tubs are cheap - the rest of the replacements are nominal. The cage is damaged but not beyond repair although I won't be using it in my new car. From the seat forward is fine. The front end will more than likely go onto the now infamous JDM-ITR ECHC car. Everything else that isn't damaged (90% of the running gear) will be moved to a new car. Time consuming? Yeah but building them is half the fun!

wow, this happened to my friend Gordon Pun this weekend at Thunderhill. He was there testing his USTCC hatchback. Anyways, he lent the car to a friend so he could go for his regional road race liscense. With about 2 mins left in his testing, he rolled the car 7 times on turn one. He too walked away. The car is absolutely toast! I have pics of it, but I dont have them on the web yet.
I bought some brembo rotors from Gordon a few months ago. Real nice guy.

Good luck -- and like you said building it is half the fun, and you always make it better ...

Damn, hate to hear about this stuff. Glad you're both ok and hope you both make a speedy return to motorsports.
And Drew has the right attiftude. Tubs are cheap, it's the rest of the stuff that is expensive. Salvage GSR tubs are what? $1000?

Keith~ glad to hear you walked away
Drew~ you're showing an amazing attitude; thanks for showing how to do it right!
Cars and parts can be replaced; people cannot...
Damn drew, that was a sweet looking car, sucks to see something like this happen. Glad to see you're taking it so well (at least it seems, I can't even imagine what you must've thought when you saw it
). Good luck with the new car, hope you'll keep us updated
