I have noticed a slight clunk when putting the car in gear and was checking the drivetrain. I noticed that the passenger side half-shaft has play along its length (toward transaxle). The boots appear fine but I have only had the car for several months so I can't rule out prior boot replacement. The axle nut is tight and intact. I have changed the trans fluid and the plug had only minor dust on it with no metal particles. I am wondering if this indicates a problem withe axle itself or the transaxle? I checked all the usual wear points and the busings, ball joints and tie rod ends look OK. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
