How do you stay interested in your build?
Whats up HT? As the title states how do you stay interested in your builds? I ask because I have lost all interest in mine. About a year ago I stipped my 4dr to a bare shell. No glass, no wireing, no brake lines. I shaved parts of the engine bay and block sanded the car at least 10 times. Finally when I was ready for paint, I sent it off. The car came back perfectly coated in frost white with a hint of white pearl. Now nearly a year later I havent done much other than make the car a roller again with all new suspension and brakes. I just cant seem to bring myself to do the rest. Even with work, school, and gf I could still make time.
You just have to think of the finished product. I started my build with a 1-2 month window that I wanted to get it done in. But after I started tearing it down, thats when I realized that I wanted to do it right, the first time and just went all out. Its been almost 6 months of on/off working on it depending on my schedule and its drivable, just not 100% complete yet. Just knowing that I took it down to almost nothing, and seeing how it sits is enough to keep me interested in my build to the end! Hope that helps you out.
Well considering that I am probably a little older than you...what keeps me going is the fact that I will be staring at marriage and kids in the very near future. If I don't do my build now and complete it I will NEVER have the chance to do it ever again. Its tough when you buy a home, have a family, your daily job, daily chores, and just everyday stuff to fit in a car. But I also gave up some things that gave me this oppourtunity work on my project...I gave up working in Hockey and I also gave up working with elite hockey players. Although its not completely a bad thing (I don't have to go to the rink on weekends and traveling all over the place). I hope this helps but that's what keeps me going!

I bought my crx back in 04 and slapped a kit on it painted and drove it for a year then in 05 i wanted to derice it and go for the stock/jdm look started ordering parts left and righr swapped the motor did the body work and i have had the car painted since may of this year and the car still isnt done i keep finding little things i want do diffrent and stuff i am not sure i want do at all and i dont want do something i am going to regret and then i dont want to finish and have to take apart again to add or change, So to you question i get the music playing couple of bottle water and go in the garage and start working on some and most of the time i get in to it and want to finish the car or at least what i started on another make a build thread and let people see what you are working on mayb words of wisdom will help.......
i always take pics of everything i do, and if i get bored with it, i just start looking back at all the hard work ive done, ive completed, about 6 diff cars in the past 2 years, and when i get tired of working, i just look back at all the work ive done, and get motivated again.

Couldn't of said it better. I've been working on mine for the past year and a half little by little. I think that some people get overwhelmed when they pull the entire car apart and wonder where they are going to start. I try to focus on one thing at a time.
What keeps me interested or better yet motivated, is seeing the builds and the cleaness and the detail of the work that is put into a build. This is what makes me storage my car so I can work on it there and buy me a DD.
i think people commenting on a build helps me now only if people would comment on my build i'd be happy i'm starting to sway but i need to finish it before **** hits fan real hard with wife.
Thanks for the replies. Keep them coming! People at HT I may get off my lazy *** and post some pix. Feedback on them may get the ball rolling again. Also maybe if I didnt "pre-game" and just get a lil d-runk while im in the garage working I might could do work. lol
Yeah pretty much what they said! lol Making a build thread was the best idea ever it kept me very motivated, so I could get on the forums and post updates.
Deftinely what these folks above said, lookin back on what it was to where it is now and being like that's my work right there. Also i agree with stripping the car apart and being discouraged about it..but then you put you mind to fixing what you feel need to be fixed or tampered with first and once you fix that you move on but you gain confidence most definitely. Confidence in yourself will get the project underway. There's days i sit in my shell and ask myself what the **** am i doing, why did i strip the damn sound insulation out? i feel like a moron, but then i think to myself, go big or end up with a shitty car that you coulda bought for less than you paid for the shell. Trust me i know my car makes me cry when i look at it..lol..i've had it since october..
mine took 3 years
. I was never in a rush. I worked on my car when i could/wanted to. I mainly worked on it when i was tired of everything else and wanted to be alone. I just worked on it as a way to get away from other things going on. Most of the time it left me feeling good, i could look back and see progress. Other times id get even more upset, specially when i was doing wiring.
It was a huge learning experience never again will i do all this on this level without a huge bankroll starting and a huge list of parts to buy off hand. I love it and love my crx now.

I cant help but stay interested, cars have always been a passion of mine. It's crazy to say, but alot of my motivation to work is because of my cars ha. Im lucky to have this passion... Ive met my best friends, and have had my greatest times being around cars. Ill never stop enjoying motorsports. That's for sure.
i agree with na^^^^ love cars have fun times around cars... get some beers out, have a good time with a few friends... shed some blood.... when your done you can say you did that..
mines going to be almost 2 years, it just the $$ is the issue right now, if I had the $$ I would deffy get back on it.
