skunk 2 coilovers bouncy???
Hello I have skunk 2 pro s full coilovers with the threaded shock body and springs. They are unconfortable, bouncy, and feel unsafe at moderatly high speeds over anything resembling a bump. I dont have the car slammed or anything just about a 1-2 inch drop. Do you think I am hitting bumpstops already or are these just the biggest piece of **** coilovers ever made. I guess I could just raise it an inch and see if the ride is better. Curious if anyone has had similar experiences with these coilovers.
I hate coil overs. Both skunk and h&r are known to be the most stiff. They work super well for the track as thats what they were designed for. On the street, i don't care for them.
I'm all about a good set of lowering springs and set of shocks.....thats what gives a good ride quality on the street.

Im not sure on the spring rates. I ordered them off ebay for my 91 crx si. I expected them too be stiff and somewhat unconfortable but its the bounce after hitting a bump that feels very unsafe. Im thinking I must be hitting the bump stops. But I cant believe Im going to have to bring it back up to stock ride height. Kinda defeats what I was going for. But ride is more important to me than looks.

Damn! you got good eyes if you could tell thats a bfg drag radial !!!
I run them at 32psi on the street. I dont think they are causing my issue though.

do you have any other mods to the rear suspension or just coil overs? somethimes haven a stiff rear sway bar will just make the rear way to stiff. if you have heavy spring rates.
Every single bushing is energy suspension. everything else is stock including the sway bars. It feels like the front of the car is the problem. Although the rear is very stiff. I can jump on the rear bumper and the car barely moves. Rear is quite a bit higher stance.
skunk2 are known to be stiff. i used to rock them and know. Are u using stock struts? if you are than that's your problem. Stock strut are not meant for lowered vehicles. by the look of the pics it looks that you are. but correct me if im wrong. Look into getting at LEAST some tokico blues. yeah skunk2 coilovers always need a good strut in order to perform well. i remember when i slap them on my stock struts and I was bouncing all over the place. if all else fails, you might want to raise it up a bit.
Sounds like weak dampening, though the tires might not be helping. Sometimes the tires will amplify the effects of soft struts. I'd contact Skunk2 and talk with them, because IIRC you do not have adjustable dampening on those struts.
im having the same problem on my other CRX, it has Ground Control coilovers though. but im thinking the reason why my ride is so bouncy is because i have 17" konigs and somewhat thick Toyo's
maybe u have to get smaller wheels/tires
i almost ran off a bridge on a highway because i hit a bump and almost lost control of my car...scared the crap out of me and when i run over train tracks the back end of the car bounces like its a cholo whip, all the tools in the back fly up lol
but good luck with whatever it is, it could just be some mexican made Skunk 2s that u bought off of ebay, my newest crx has Tein coilovers and it rides soooooo soft for being lowered so dramatically, i grind everytime i pull in my driveway. get some teins you wont be disappointed.

i believe the OP is talking about the "full coilovers". which are the threaded body SHOCK. not the "sleeve over" type like GC.
with GC, you really need a good quality shock like illuminas or yellows. and another thing to note, do not attempt to reuse the shock covers at all. just throw them away. dont even cut them.

Here is the response from skunk2 for whoever is still interested.

Hello,
To start, the ride quality will change drastically from stock as the Skunk2 coilovers will be much stiffer than factory. With that being said, the ride will have quite a bit of bounce seeing is how the spring rates are significantly stiffer than stock which means the shock will rebound more with a stiff spring.
I highly doubt that the shocks are hitting the bump stop with only 1-2" of drop so I recommend that you go back and double check the installation to make sure they were installed properly.
