Main shaft bearing?
I recently swapped a 99 GSR Trans into my 91 Rex and have a nasty vibration when the car sits still. As soon as I let the clutch out it subsides but comes back whenever the clutch is not ingaged. The only thing spinning at that point is the main shaft so I'm thinking that must be the problem. I've checked everything outside and have replaced the axles numerous times but it won't go away. My car is down for the winter and I was gonna yank trans and replace it or at least inspect the bearings. I'm looking forms semi qualified second opinion, I'm not new to Honda's or this site... Just lost my old password and they won't recover it.
Side note... It's not a vibration that shakes the car or makes it dangerous to drive but more like the loudest most annoying sound in the universe. People look at me while I'm sitting at lights it's sooo bad. Quite embarassing I might add as my car look like a baddass otherwise.

You are correct. We had a similar problem but on a jeep. Everytime you push in the clutch the noise will disappear but when you let go of the clutch there would be hardcore sound inside the transmission.
I'd check the input shaft (Main shaft) bearing. Also inspect all your other bearings to make sure no metal shavings got in them.

Yeah I looked it up for a sec and theres people that encountered noises with throwout bearings.
Unlike me, I never encountered noises with throw out bearings, rather it would not let the gears engage properly. Not as if I'd know it all, but from my experiences and diagnosing, replacing and having no come backs.
I am ASE Certified Tech, in Manual and Automatic Transmissions. So I think know quite a bit about transmissions. But as you can see, I can get mix up depress with press in at times. Not everyone knows it all. No biggy

Troubleshooting Noise and Problems
If the vehicle is running and a whirring sound is heard and then it goes away when the clutch is depressed, the transmission input shaft bearing has failed.
If the transmission is quiet in neutral but when you depress the clutch a squealing noise is observed, a clutch throw out bearing has failed.
There, go look it up yourself
Not quite sure which symptom he has cause I'm buzzing and I can only understand english. But its one of the symptoms, whether depressed or not depressed when the noise occurs

Ok i'm not calling you dumb, and thats cool that youre ase certified, i havent taken my test yet for manuals. a lot of ppl on here just will mention stuff when sometimes they dont have a clue. just giving my input. and just hopefully trying to save him from a teardown if it wasnt necessary.
to the OP, goodluck with the noise search

Pilot and throwout are brand new... I'm pretty sure its the main shaft bearing to be honest. It makes the noise no matter what at a stand still clutch in or clutch out, I should have explained better, once the clutch is released and pressure applied to the trans is when it goes away.
