Default Cluster Question

I'm sick of not having an rpm gauge in my car among other things(b18c5). Anyway will a 88-91 civic si or crx cluster fit into my dash with no problems? Also Does anyone know how difficult it is to install a/c in a car that doesn't have it? Thanks Tim

well tim, seeing as how this is a(mostly) 88-91 crx/civic forum, i'm guess you have something in that line of car? so it probably will fit, but post what car you have and we can make sure

You can run a cluster from a Si but it has to be from a 90-91 Civic/CRX Si. I have a 89 Civic Si and I tried putting my brothers cluster from his 91 Civic Si and it didn't work. Make sure the cluster you get is from a 90-91 Si.

Switch the wires around if you get a different year
88-89
90-91
these are the years the cluster work by
if you have an 88 and put a 90 switch the wires around and it will fit

actually it doesnt have to do with the wiring. i am pretty sure the 88-89 have a more squared cluster and the 90-91 have a rounder one. so i dont think that they fit unless u get the right year.

you are correct that the differing years are different shape. but there is also a wiring issue

Question: Before I post a thread on this, has anyone tried using a 88-89 teg cluster in thier EF? I think the redline on those cars is like 7500 isn't it? I'm just wondering is the tach is any different than the Si/EX tachs. I don't really trust my stock tach to be accurate at 8K RPM........especially since it's an HF tach(I.E. 5k redline)

Would it be possible to swap just the factory tach from an 88-89 teg cluster in to an 88-89 EF cluster?
