Default is it the front right axle? noobie

okay so i just got a new 95 accord ex (f22b1 v-tec motor) and i noticed that theres some slight vibration durring acceleration. its sounds like a rattling noise coming from the front right of the car. does this mean i have to replace the front right axle?

also the previous owner said since switching to synthetic oil the car began to have small leaks thats probably just the gasket rights? are the ebay gaskets dependable?

im kind of new to the whole honda scene should i expect to be replacing anything soon the car is at 185xxx besides the usual tune ups? (dist, cap plugs, sparks, etc.)

oh yeah and what oil would you guys recommend?

The Constant velocity Joints on the axles will normally cause a snapping noise whenever the car is turning, not so much while straight ahead. Is the vibration in the steering wheel, or more thru the floor?

For the miniscule savings you MIGHT realize by going EBay, you're going to loose in shipping fees. Do it right (and only once) and go Honda OEM (at least on this topic). On Mission Critical pieces, I always suggest (and use) OEM. Why do the same job twice?

If you don't already know this answer, I would suggest you query the former owner to find out: When was the last time the Camshaft Drive Belt (often called Timing Belt) was replaced? Ideally, it should be on it's third belt by now. That's really the only thing that might bite you in the A** if you don't do the diligence.

P Adams is right on the money as usual.

As far as oil choice goes, you'll get a different answer from everyone you ask. Right now, Pennzoil Pure Platinum is widely regarded as one of the best oils for the money. Better than Mobil1, which is still a fine choice. If you want to drive yourself crazy with oil, go visit http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/ and let the madness ensue. The short answer is that any 5w30 oil that is SL or SJ rated, and changed at 3 - 5k mile intervals with a quality filter, is fine.

p adams.

the vibration is caused when going straight actually, not just when turning and yes it seems to be coming from the floor

oh and thanks for the oil rate i was mainly looking for the rating 5w30 sl/sj

thanks

There are many things and conditions which can cause vibrations.
Such as:
Defective Hub Bearing
Wheel Bent
Tire out of balance
Warped brake rotor
Loose suspension component.
Worn / scolloped tire tread.

A road test by a tech with more than a few years under the belt would be the quickest route to finding these things, but let's give it a go here...

I'll start with a few rudimentary questions:
1) Is it road surface sensitive? (Asphault as opposed to concrete)
2) Is it road speed sensitive? (Faster speeds cause higher frequency / faster speed causes heavier vibration)
3) Is it Engine speed sensitive? (vibration changes with engine rpm)
4) Is there an associated noise (hum / growl / Thump / rattle)??
If an Automatic:
4) Is there a difference in vibration if in Drive/Reverse or neutral?

USUALLY, a floor-prevelent vibration will eliminate the front tires ect from the list of Usual Suspects. We'll see where this topic leads us.

Most likely you had a condition called Tire Scolloping; often caused by a combination of mis-adjusted Toe Angle and underinflated tires. It's usually found on the tires shoulder (where tread and sidewall meet) and can often be felt, rather than seen.
