Transmission seems to be slipping after replacing freeze plug--any ideas?
I recently had the freeze plug replaced on my 1992 honda accord. After driving it a few days I noticed that the transmission seems to be slipping. I especially notice it at take offs at stop lights. I seem to notice it more also when the engine warms up. Could this be related to the work done to replace the freeze plug. The mechanic I used is a decent but not great mechanic( I am currently looking for a good mechanic who also offers reasonable pricing) so I was wondering if this problem could be connected with his work. I have never noticed this problem prior to the work that was done. Any thoughts?
Why did you replace the freeze plug? I have only seen one freeze plug need cleaned and not replaced in the 10 years that I've been around Honda's. Honda freeze plugs screw in to the block not press in.
My honda is an automatic and the reason the freeze plug was replaced was that all the coolant was running out of the car. I thought it was a hose or a hole in the radiator. My temperature gauge read hot and I saw steam coming from under the hood. There was very little coolant in the radiator. I had to have the car towed. I checked the hoses and radiator but could find no holes. However, there was coolant running along the engine block. I could not tell where it was coming from.
The mechanic checked the hoses and radiator and concluded it was the freeze plug. I am not a car guy, I can change oil, plugs, filters, and even an alternator but when it gets beyond that I give it to someone with expertise. I don't know where the freeze plug is. I relied on the mechanic. He said he had to pull the transmission to get to it. Whatever he did stopped the leak but now I notice that the transmission slips a bit when I accelerate. It seems to happen more when the car is hot than when the car has not reached operating temperature. In other words, I only notice this after about 5 minutes of driving the car. Does this help? Thanks in advance.
