Keep the N/A B16a, or Sell it and built Turbo Mini-Me?
I have been debating, and ended up putting my CRX up for sale on the AutoTrader for sale. For reference, see the link in my sig. However, I am not sure what I want to do right now. I know the Mini-Me's are very inexpensive, and fairly easy to do. I was talking to a local guy (Ken) with a N/A Mini-Me that's pumping more HP/Torque than my B16a, and the only differences he has is a Apex-I and a FPR (Mini-Me is stock...I/H/E, Integra Pistons). I need some $$$ right now for some expenses...and I love my B16a and all..but this really looks like something I might want to do. If I do decide to do it, I would like to go turbo w/it, but I know that can be a problem sometimes as far as the compression on the Mini-Me's. I'm not toooooo (I can do some stuff, but internals of an engine are not my strong point) comfortable w/ replacing pistons, so will the stock ones be okay if I am going to be running like 8psi? Overall, (looking to spend about $2k on a decent 90-91 CRX Si) how much am I looking to spend to do the Mini-Me w/ Turbo, and has anybody done it and I can check out their setup?
Thanks,
jB

whats up man! if your going turbo dont go the mini me route.that set up yeilds higher comp for a good na set up.go like a z6 or y8 and put some je 9.1 pistons in.and also some rods, eagle or crower.spend the money for good fuel management like hondata and have it tuned right!!!!!!!

Ahh, 4g, I was just looking for you to PM. I wanted to see if you ever got her over to Bithlow, and what you ran?
I really don't want to do another engine swap right now, as I need the $$$ from the B16a sale for other expense. I will be falling in to some money in about 2 months...and by that time I should have been able to do the turbo. How are you liking yours right now? W/ the y7, you don't have the VTEC do you? (I'm still not too up to date on the D series info).
Also, which would be better for the Mini-Me if I do decide to go that route? Should I go d15b2 (DX..I think), or the d16a6 (Si)?..and with what head? The z6 or y8?

well i put on a y8 intake manifold last week.it is better than the z6 by far.y7 block y8 vtec head going on this week.in crystal river at l.k.q. salvage they sell 96-00 y7 motors with 30.000 to 47,000 miles for $275.00 all day long no trans or distrib.and the sell 96-00 y8 vtec heads low miles for $250.00 all day long.the jdm d15b wich is a single cam 1.5 vtec puts out stock 130 hp.a place in miami has them for $550.00. if you need any help let me know ill be happy to help you with any thing,oh quit getting tickets!!!!!
i just say grab a d16z6 from someone who is swapping a b-series into their 92-95. get thewir whole swap motor/tranny/ecu for bout 600..then use ur crx si ecu and dist. for now.
if you need money you should be putting that first instead of the car..
sell the b16. then once ur back on track get a vafc to get the vtec working and bump up the fuel when it hits vtec. this will also be good for the vafc..450cc injector hack. once you got those. go get ur turbo and run bout 200 hp with that instead of ur b16's 160 wit the zex.
then sell me ur zex!!

Do you have the # to the place in crystal river. I live in orlando and looking to do a mini-me right now. I might be interested in the place in miami also. let me know
Turbo's rule!!! And Turboing a SOHC engine is cheap compared to a DOHC. Look at the prices. I would do a custom kit (if you can) Build the Engine, and get a Zdyne Gold SECU. Also there is a lot more room with a SOHC engine and it's lighter. Take it from me. I have a B18B turbo setup in my car. Only puts down 189 whp @ 8 psi!

The thing is, I have neither the time or the place to do an entire swap (+ my comfortability w/ doing an entire swap right now...having to mess w/ the VTEC wiring and complications.) As far as the y8 head on a stock a6 bottom end, I'm thinking that it would be something I could do in a weekends time... I have a local friend w/ a z6 swap in his CRX, and he hates. He didn't go OBD1, and says that it's really hurting him as far as the engines full potential. Is it just him, or is it something that I will need to do if I go w/ the entire z6?
I calculated it out w/ him today too. How does this look for you guys. BTW, I am looking on keeping the bottom end stock (lower compression) w/ a thicker head gasket:
90-91 CRX Si (From looking at a few in the local Autotrader): ~$2000
y8 Head: ~$150
Mild P/P to y8 head before installing: ~$250
New Head Gasket & Timing Belt: ~$250
VAFC: $300
Walboro 255lb: $125
Misc Parts/Complications/F*ck Ups: $250
Anything else? So for everything, I'm looking at: $3070. Add a FPR on there and a cam gear and I'm up to maybe $3250...Still about $1k less than what I am hoping to get for the rex. That will leave me w/ the $$$ I need right now, and when I fall in to the money in the upcoming months (About $2k), then there's the turbo...
Comments/Suggestions? 4g, wanna just sell me your whole thing and save me a bunch of trouble

A new headgasket and timing belt shouldn't cost $250.
Try http://www.manhonda.com I bought my headgasket and timing belt for ~$70 shipped. And they were OEM honda parts. Never buy the OEM parts from your local honda dealership. Mine wanted $120 for both parts.
