i just got my 92 accord smogged after sitting for 8 months and now when i put it in gear the idle raises close to 3000 and doesnt correct itself until I accelerate. It started irradical idling in park but I removed the harness to the IACV and replaced it and it stopped. Right before I parked it I had the distributar replaced for the icm and it ran fine. It is an automatic with 265k. The only thing that is modified under the hood is a K&N coldair for a 94 accord, but it has been installed for 3 years.

Any ideas?

 

check your FITV. its the valve sitting on the top of your intake manifold. has 2 screws on the top of it. let the car warm up, the turn that plastic piece in there til its tightened down.

if that doesnt work, try adjusting your idle screw on your throttle body. tighten that all the way down then gradually loosen it up until its where it needs to be. but be sure to put the cover that comes on it back on. if you dont then while your driving, it'll come right back out.

now if worse comes to worse and niether one of those works then that means you have a vacuum leak somewhere. get a can of starter fluid or better yet a can of thottle body cleaner and while the car is on, spray small amounts around the intake manifold. if it idles up then you have a vaccum leak. most likely it will be a screw or nut that isnt tight or a vacuum tube isnt on.

 

Ok I adjusted the plastic piece in the FITV and the idle settled properly. Here is the down side. It raised twice after that. Both times idle rose to 1500 rpms and dropped back to 650. It has not done it since then. What else should I try?
